Title: Herter's Inc recurve... fixable?
Post by: muddyIA on March 09, 2014, 05:04:00 PM
Hello, thanks for helping.  This is a recurve I am curious to know if it's still shootable.  Has a very small hairline crack in the handle as the pic shows.  It doesn't appear to go very far into the handle, but I need some expert thoughts on it.  Opinions?

Does the crack go through the shelf?

Here is the "before" post about the crack:

Loctite 420 is amazing stuff.

Ahh, that's helpful to see how he's getting it into a syringe.

A local bowyer looked at the Herters, he doesn't think the crack is concerning enough to worry about.  Going to go to his place on Tuesday and shoot it.

So is the LOCTITE stored in the fridge for a night in the syringe before this whole process?  I guess I didn't quite read if it was or not.

Loctite 420 is expensive.

Use it at room temperature, but store it in the fridge. Other people make do with cheaper stuff, but "420" flows into cracks the best.

Thanks.  Doesn't make sense to repair a great bow with 2nd best IMO.

Where does a guy get syringes?

Farm supply/feed mill often have vet supplies. I get them at Tractor Supply.
