So this little (long)gem was hanging out in my father-in laws closet. I put a new string on it and I'm working out a little twist in the lower limb (it moves string off center after drawing and letting down). I'm close to having the twist worked out and have avoided the hot water treatment so far.
Anyway, any thoughts on year of production? I'm thinking 1961 or 1962 based on serial number and shape of riser. I don't see any dogleg shape, so I'm eliminating 1963 and it's not a 1964 through 1969 because of lack of single number digit starting off the serial number. Coin looks like the one I had on my 1962 Kodiak Magnum. It has a nice piece of Zebrawood in the riser. Also looks like it has I-beam construction.

1962 Ray.

Thanks Jack. It should be a fun bow to take to the range this summer (if all this snow ever melts!)

Yes, the Polars are a bit of a sleeper. Nice looking zebrawood in that one too.
-
A very good year for the polars!
-
Great looking bow

The black painted coin is the give away on the 1962 year of production. Keep tweaking that limb in the opposite direction. It should come out just fine. Match it up with some light spined shafts and it should be a fun one to shoot.

I hope I am not causing a problem by jumping in on this older post. The bow looks like the one I just purchased except I think mine is Bubinga (coin is dead match). This is a first bow for an old retired guy.
Mine has a small hole just about where the sight is mounted on the back of the bow, just above the rest as in the photo.
1. I am wondering where I could get more information regarding this sight.
2. The serial number on mine does not seem to match the format of other Polars of the early sixties (4S5). Does anyone know what it indicates?
It is Left Handed, 66", 40#
If anyone would like photos posted, I will try to figure out the process. I am completely new to this forum.
Thanks
Ray

Welcome to the forum Ray. Plenty of room for a new guy around here. I suspect that I know what "sight" you are referring to but a picture or two would really help. Is this hole in the glass or is it on the side of the riser. There were some quivers that had sharp points on them that marred up many a riser back in those times.

Thanks for your response. The sight that I am referring to is in the photos of the original post for this thread.
Here are a few photos of my bow.-just a new guy looking for some assistance. Year of Manufacture-wood type and any information regarding serial number?
Thanks

So where is this hole that you mentioned?
-
I have owned a couple of bows with that sight. I know that I presently have a HowattCavalier with one mounted on it. I willcheck for a brand or name on it tomorrow morning. It just has the bracket and is missing the adjustable pin.

Thanks. Here is a photo showing the mount hole in the riser -LH Polar (http:// [img]http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h477/61windsor/sightmount_edited-1_zpsad3992aa.jpg) [/IMG]

The sight on my old bow has no branding or other clue as to who made it. It is also about half as long and has a dovetail machined into it. The one in the picture appears to have grooves that would accept a c clamp type pin.
