I have never glued overlays on the belly side of a longbow riser like the Whip or Horne longbows. I'd like to try it on my next bow. You guys that have done it, do you put the overlays on during initial glue up or after the bow is taken out of the form. It seems to me that the overlays would be sliding all over the place once you put the pressure on during initial glue up. Chad
I always put the belly and backing overlays after the bow is out of the form.
I use Devcon 2-ton epoxy with a set time of 30 minutes.
Then I use an inner tube and clamps to fix them.

Chad,
Yep it's a secondary process. Use Smooth On and either build a jig and use a small hose or use clamps. We use this process on most of our bows.

Thanks so much. I'll give it a try. Chad
