I have a duck and goose hunt in Kansas the end of the month and would like to shot a longbow while field hunting. Any ideas or thoughts on this would be great. Any one know of any video of wingshooting waterfowl. I did see the Tred Barta Show.
There are those arial targets and there are plans around for a launcher. That might be good practice. Tred had the basic idea but he missed every goose he shot at but he did finally get lucky wuth that mallard. good luck to you-Scott
it is pretty tough i killed a mallard in the air a few years ago, i dont know how many shots it took to learn to wait for only straight on flaring decoy landers, even after that it took probably 20 sthots and 3 days to connect. i was hunting over watter so i used a hunting arow rigged to a fishing reel i had a field tip with a sharpenned wingnut as a cutter and barb. when i hit her she fell and i reeled her in. i wont do that again unless there are millions of birds.
Geese in a field over decoys is double and fun. the hardest part was the deciding if I wanted to eat the snow goose or the boot i used for seasoning. After a few hours of stewing it was a tossup.
Laddy; Does that mean that you killed alot and the hard part was the eating? We will be field hunting over decoys.Flu flus would not be good to use on this type of hunt would they? I plan on using Bh hunting arrows.
Geese coming to decoys is the only way I have ever hunted Them. They are not hard to hit but hard to kill! I would use a broadhead and no flu-flus, just regular hunting arrows!The reason being the off speed of the flu-flus will cause you to be behind the target, at least this happens to me. It is impulse shooting and you don't want to screw up your mind due to the change in speed. If you use a sighting aid, you might as well stay home.The geese will be on the water before you can sight and shoot.

We used to stalk ducks on sand pits and got a couple of ducks floating rivers with canoes. When you see ducks ahead beach the boat and stalk from the bank. One day I got a couple giant canadas. the snow goose in question, we saw a flock feeding in a large bean field. We noticed that the geese were over flying each other progressing across the field. We covered ourselves with grass in a waterway and let feed to us. When they got almost on top of us we sat up and shot. My buddy got one on the ground and I got one about five feet up. We would have gotten another chance on a fly by, but the farmer got so excited he came flying across the field with his pickup. the snow goose was really tough coming out of the oven tried stewing it, it was still pretty tough. the boot is just a joke, but it couldn't have hurt. You can miss by a mile on fly by ducks, 30 ft. leads come close.
