There was talk of everyone posting what they got. I figured it would be easier to start a new thread since the last one was getting so long. SO lets hear or see shat ya got.
-
Ok I'll go first. Bamboobender sent me a copy of The Archer's Bible by Fred Bear 1968 edition. And what a surprise since I have started a collection of Fred Bear related pictures books. I met him in 1982 something and he was a very cool man. Thanks very much Bamboobender.
-
Opps...I posted this in the other thread too.
Hi Squirrel Bait!!! Thanks!! A girl can NOT have too many Turkey calls! I like it ...it sounds great and I like it cause in a just a few more years it will be a collectible cause of it's age. I like the hand made single arrow quiver too. Merry Christmas and thanks again!
-
Dawn Partol hooked me up with a great quiver.
Thanks Tom.

You are more than welcome Lonnie and I know you can use it when that North wind blows that snow down from Neb.
-
Billy sent me a cool assortment. A rubber blunt, 3 broad heads, assorted color feathers, and wool silencers. It's kinda funny how people who don't even know ya know exactly what ya need. This is the coolest thing ever. I think we need to start this again in a month or two when the snow is blowing and were are stuck inside. It would be a good way to get rid of the winter blues and get us thinking about season again. This site ROCKS!!!

John/Alaska chose to stick to the spirit of a White Elephant Sale, etc., and provided me with some snickers, chuckles, guffaws and outright LOLs in the way of "Library" material. (I'll refrain from saying which "book review" in the accompaning letter gave me the most LOL,s ;) ) Thanks, John, it lightened a day when I was nursing a sore shoulder. Anyone that's planning a trip to John's area, I've got the Regulation Books right here in the Lower 48, and a pretty good "ID pic" of the Air Strip :D . Oh, the comment about the Walrus was Because I told John, on the original thread, to please not ship a live Walrus, as Camo Dog would try to "eat the whole thing." :knothead:

Bernie
Happy White Elephant Gift Pass Along! Or more appropriately White Elephant Trash Pass Along! LOL
I went looking for some items that I really don't have much use for plus a couple of other items of entertainment. The walrus was too big to ship!
White Elephants:
I Stalking & Still-Hunting - I personally thought old Fred was getting full of himself when he wrote this. Normally I do enjoy his writings. But not this one!
2. Calling White Tails Tape - Won this in a raffle. But no white tails around here. I kept the calls as they are useful for predator hunting. That is a huge passion of mine!
Items of Entertainment:
1. Picture - This is the infamous airstrip that moose, caribou & sheep hunters- fly out of when hunting the eastern interior. I took this picture a couple of years ago the day after Wingnut, Jason, John Havard & OL flew out on their moose adventure. I live about 200 yards to the left of the red hanger. Great grouse & small game hunting around the airstrip.
2. Hunting Regulations; State of Alaska & Federal Subsistence regs. Thought it might be enlightening to look at. I live in unit 12 and hunt it, unit 11 & 20E mainly (see page 61 of the Alaska book). Look on page 60 of the Federal regs. You'll see the elders hunt (I'm heading to 63 this march) for Dall Sheep. This one doesn't require mountain climbing.
3. Moose Dropping &. .. - A book of humor to read on the stand or
elsewhere!
Enjoy! & Have a Happy Holiday season!

I was just working away in the shop and had an idea for the ultimate "white elephant" for a tradganger. I may be throwing this out there a little early but here it goes. I can't believe no one has recieved a compound bow. As you dig thru the stuff in the basement/shop and look for stuff in the true spirit of a white elephant, what better gift for this group than the old compound you haven't used in years! Sorry I guess I just can't get back into the work schedule after having an extra day off so I am trying anything I can not to. That tends to be dangerous because my mind starts to go in too many directions at once! lol
Happy New Year and God BLess

rh44mag - Thanx!! I just received that box full of turkey feathers. You are right there are no turkeys in Alaska except down in Juneau when our legislature convenes. The feathers will be put to good use not only on some arrows that I'll be building up but also for use on decoys for my fur hunting activities. Thanx again!
-
I recieved a box last night chock full of lots of goodies -- I was like a kid at Christmas. Among other items there were broadheads, string silencers, snake skins, turkey wing feathers, feather fletching, blunt tips, knock points, and an AWESOME hand made knife! I plan to add a sheath to my hunting quiver for the knife and I will carry it with pride. As soon as I get a chance to get some blood on it, other than my own, I will post pics!!!

I've almost got Rick's ("wtpops")White Elephant done now so it should go in the mail next week. I've apologized to him. I usually am not so slow about things I say I will do. He is being exceedingly patient, bless his heart.
(Actually, I'm having trouble with the ears - they are sooooo big. :D )
-
Look at what Frank made. :bigsmyl:
-
I just opened the box from MQQSE.
Someone earlier had said that it's funny how a Trad person knows just what the other Trad person needs. Well Chris was on the money.
He sent me a beautiful money clip of a Buck grazing, a set of piggy backs which since I was going to buy for the bunny hunt next month and a shooting glove with reinforced tips.
I just received a new/used HH Halfbreed longbow in the mail at the same time of this delivery today. Timing was on the money. I know once I tried to pull this bow back (80#) I would need to get a new glove that has reinforced tips, well I have it now.
Chris thanks a alot.

I got a goodie box today! Judos, Phantoms, hand warmers, string wax, a custom arm guard & string tender, a 'wearable' broadhead that will go on my hunting hat, some of that wonderful tape for fletching arrows . . . I sat in the parking lot of the post office for a long time looking through that box and being amazed at 'the gang.'
Thanks, Jim, and thanks to all that participated in this. It has been an awesome experience.
I'll be using those judo's when we do the bunny hunt in a few weeks if we can find any . . .
Steve

Steve,
You are most welcome and as I said in the email to you:
That all of us here would like to thank you for this great thread you created where we were able to share soemthing with people who share the same passion for a sport.
God Bless you and your Family this New Year.
Jim
P.S.
Can't wait till next year as I won't have to buy myself something for under the tree, I'll wait for the White Elephant to arrive because it will know what I want.
-
Nuttin' yet... :campfire:
-
yup same here.. nothin yet.. still looking forward to it with anticipation.
-
me too! Like a kid in a candy store
-
keep it up top
-
I know some of the guys who clued me in said they were making their gifts . . . and it might take a while to find an appropriate elephant, stalk & shoot him, tan the hide, and make it into an arm guard.
Or imagine the task of finding snakes in the winter for backing material . .
Or how long do you have to look before you find a roadkill turkey so you can grab some feathers?
I'm trusting tradgangers to follow through on this and I've only had my heart broken once by a fellow trad ganger! Not bad for all the swaps made here.
Steve
-
Would you believe - i finally mailed Rick Cunningham's off yesterday - as I said on the other thread, I had a heck of a time getting that White Elephant crammed through the mail slot - Whew! (I hope he likes it.)
-
Voodofire1 sent me 6 hunting video's, the funny thing is I did not have one of the ones he sent. Looks like I am going to have to get some pop corn and a liter of Vernors :)
-
Just opened a package from Arrowslinger and there were a dozen shafts I think are POC, 6 cane shafts, some fletching and glue, a turkey decoy and a hat with a built in light.
-
I got a real nice little package from "Two Hats" on Saturday. Thank you very much. The shirt is a "little" to big for me, but I will make something out of it...
