Title: Herters Perfection recurve

Opinions on this old bow? Saw one in local surplus store for $125.

I had one for awhile.  It looked so odd hanging next to my Bears that I gave it to my son in law.  I believe that $125 may be a bit on the steep end of the price range for Perfections.
They are not a highly collectable bow and despite Mr. Herters glowing gushing exclamations of what a fine bow they were, they are moderate at best.  If you like the looks of the thing, (I think they resemble water buffalo horns) you might make an offer and end up owning it for somewhat less than asking price.

One thing I will say for the bows is that you can break down the serial number and know almost exactly when it was built.
I think Shakespere built them but it may have been Pearson.  It has been a couple of years since I did any readinga on the Herters bows and my memory  isn't what it once was.

I kid my friend who has several Herters bows that he is a Herters collector and I have shot them all. They are one the best shooting older bows I have ever shot.

Haven't connected with a Herter's bow yet, but I was able to collect two of these Herter bowhunter sets. Also found a third knife without the sheath.

I hunted with Bob Barrie a number of years ago in Colorado.  Interesting fellow, he definetly has an inventors mind.  He was always explaning ideas he had, inventions and such.  Sent me some broadheads to try out after the hunt, nice guy.

$125is not bad at all if the bow is in decent shape. They were well made, usually huge chunks of rosewood in the risers, maple limbs with German Farbenglass. Bob Barrie of Rocky Mountain Razor fame designed and built the early ones I believe. Good shooters. I have a '61 Turkish Hunter that I'm very fond of.
