So I'm brand new to archery and I found a bow on the cheap but am looking for any info anyone knows about it because Google is not playing nice.
Only identifying marks are a lable that says "Black Hawk Hornet Bow" with the subtext "Cravotta Bros. E. McKeesport PA."
Theres also handwriting i can barely make out, they wrote on black with black marker. It says:
258
B422
55#
@28 (this could also say @23, its hard to make out)
Any info on this would be appreciated, thanks. Also want to know if this is a decent bow for beginners.
Thankyou

That would be a tough one to start shooting with. Crovatta Bros. bows are collectable but not a bow I would recommend a new shooter to start with. Short bow heavy poundage with a short draw. Not good for a beginner.

Thanks, i think i might stick out with it though, im a pretty big guy and the poundage doesnt bother me at all, loosed arrows with it for about 3 hours this afternoon and by the end was hitting every shot at 20 yards so all seams to be going well

IMO, Blackhawk bows are one of the best deals in the vintage bow market. Good quality shooters, funky vintage 50's-60's look to them, and the prices have stayed very reasonable. What is your draw length? You may be pulling well under the marked 55#@28".

27 1/2"

There were a couple versions of the Hornet. All neat. Wish I had never sold mine. There is a lefty on the auction now and some info here too

Does yours have the offset grip? Got photos? I love these old bows and half looking all the time for one to keep. Finding one in the high 40s, low 50 lb range IN my price range hasn't happened.
Some had a high number of laminations in the riser, some didn't but all Ive shot are good shooters.

Yeah, mines offset and in very good condition, I only paid 5 bucks for it too, garage sale win.

For five bucks you can't go wrong!
I like those old blackhawks, I have the yellowjacket and the scorpion, which are more like longbows.

I have a friend in Edmonds....I need to send him to yard sales there LOL.
Excellent find, great bow.
