Title: Bear Takedown Latch Hinge Screws (newer TD)
Post by: Hamishhog on March 13, 2013, 07:18:00 PM
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I see a lot about Bears here...

I have a 2012 Bear takedown and today one of the latch hinge screws fell out. Lucky I was on a wood floor and heard it.

I want to secure it, and all the others while I'm at it. Anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming loctite will interfere with with the hinge action.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve

Did you call Bear Archery?

Not yet. Have you had good luck on the phone with them? The only time I ever called them (in 40+ years of shooting Bears) the person didn't seem to know too much about the takedown.

Normally those screws stay in tight, and you need gun-smithing type screwdrivers to get it out.

You should definitely call Bear, those should not fall out.

I have had good luck with talking to them, I think the warranty stuff goes through Evansville, but any work would be done at Gainesville. I am guessing they may want the whole thing back, I am not sure.

They may not know the details of your item, but they should be happy to fix it.

Thanks for your replies. I'll call Bear tomorrow. Hope I can get the riser back before it warms up!

Anyone ever replace latches with one of the kits from 3Rivers or elsewhere? Just curious how the new hinge screws are installed on those.

Called Bear on this today. They said Loctite (blue) or nail polich on the end of the screw thread.

I also notice that both screws on one side are loose while the two on the other are secure so maybe someone at the factory forgot to flip the riser over...

The person knew what I was talking about and even grabbed a handle to look at while I was talking with him on the phone.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding ie no lost screws.

Thanks again for all of your help.
