Title: Vintage Damon Howatt Hi-Speed
Post by: doubleo on February 18, 2013, 06:15:00 PM
I've wanted a Howatt bow for some time now, especially the 58" Hi-Speed. Well, as luck would have it I found one hanging in a local restaurant and the owner was more than happy to sell it to me. It's a lefty 45#@28", Ser.# HSS3104L. The riser has 3 different wood types in it. Looks like a highly figured Rosewood, Babinga, and Walnut or Shedua. But that's just a guess. The limbs are black glass. Wanted to find out what year it was built, woods used, and brace hgt. Any info would be much appreciated..

I'll take a wild stab and say 1973. Risers in '63 would have radiused edges in the sight window. Very pretty bow.

It should be earlier than 1966 since it does not have the AMO markings.  It could very well be a '63 as some of the bows had transitioned away from the NE PLUS ULTRA decal at that time.

That is just my guess, beautiful bow btw!

Good looking bow, Double O. I may even have to run some arrows through it tomorrow night, even if it does have the shelf on the wrong side. Nice find!

Thanks guys for all your replies and kind words about this bow. It shoots as good as it looks. I think it might be faster than my Robertson which is about 3 pounds heavier.    :archer2:

There's a brand new, never been strung, LH early 70's model on the Raptor Archery (sponsor) website as well.

Great bow, anyone know when they stopped making them in 54" length?

Thought i'd put this back on top for anyone that hasn't seen this bow yet. We think the woods are Babinga and Rosewood in the riser.
This bow flat out shoots any bow I've ever owned and has become my go to bow. I'll be taking it turkey hunting in a few weeks.

I have to agree with Double O on this bow. He's had a number of sweet custom bows, but he shoots this one better than all the rest.

"serial number don't mean squat"

Thats crazy talk!  Everyone knows that the serial number will tell you everything right down to the phase that the moon was in during the build...      ;)

Hahaha, hopefully they didn't accuse you online because everyone knows that if it's on the Internet then it must be true...
