I am desparately trying to pick a riser wood to match with and bring out the best in fiddleback myrtle limbs. None of the usual bocote, bubinga etc that can look great at other times seems to work well with the peculiar shade of brown that is myrtle. I could really use some sugestions, or better yet, some pictures
Thanks Steve
I like a striped ebony or macasser ebony.I don't have any pic's sorry.
I'm partial to a nice dark reddish Cocobolo, Ebony would look nice as well.
Here's some links to Pics of Blacktail bows with that combo.

Some nice dark striped Wenge might look nice with the lighter Mrytle as well?

Ebony looks good, but as a contrasting color I think "orange" cocobolo looks nice also.
Myrtle with orange cocobolo as a contrasting color you say? Like this?

I had a longbow with myrtle limbs, the bowyer chose Texas ebony for the handle. Boy was that bow stunning. Sorry I don't have any pics of it...Mike
Try this, if it works this was my bow:

Oops, it's the last one on the first page. Texas ebony riser, myrtle limbs...Mike
Macassar ebony or Myrtle. Robertson has an all Myrtle takedown recurve on they're site (in stock), its beautiful, check it out.
Eric
Whip has an awesome combination there. Who made that bow Whip?
You guys have been great. Thanks for the trouble. If there is anyone that has pictures of myrtle with a medium tone riser wood I would like to see them. I originally was thinking of going dark, like one of the ebony types, but it may be too much contrast.
I have a lot of wood work experience with myrtle.
They look good, but they are fragile.
My bow is a Blacktail by Norm Johnson.
2wfslhunting, did you look at the link in my post. The bow is Texas ebony, but a lot lighter in color than the other ebony woods. In fact, I'm not even sure it is a "true" ebony...Mike

How about this.

Very nice, Whip!!
Cocobola gives mrytle a nice contrast but so would a striped ebony or macasser. There are a ton of bows out there with cocobola riser,I have quite a few bows with a cocobola riser myself. My next bow I would chose one of the ebony's.It's a personal choice.
Bolivian rosewood and myrtle. I just recieved a new blacktail today and it is bolivian rosewood riser and the limbs are myrtlewood. Check out Wes Wallace bows and he has a few bows with bolivian rosewood.
I am not sure of this but pau ferro and bolivian rosewood may be the same. Usually a medium colored brown with dark brown to black graining. There is some contast from myrtle and bolivian rosewood but the tones work well with each other. Blacktailbows.com or weswallacebows.com has pics of bolivian rosewood. Hope this helps.
pau ferro = rose wood santos =\\= bolivian rosewood .
try myrtlewood and padauk in your riser. this should look really good.

Just about anything looks good with myrtle. Myrtle varies greatly in color from one piece to another. Bocote would match the brown streaks in that recurve Westbrook posted above. Chad
