Title: First refinish (w/ pics) What's next?
Post by: K. Mogensen on November 24, 2012, 07:55:00 PM
Well, I've finished my first ever refinish, a 68-70 (I assume) Ben Pearson Colt. I found it in a bin at an antique show and decided to try my hand at it. I feel like for my first bow, I did alright. Learned a few things and had fun along the way. It's something that I definitely want to keep doing.

So I guess I need to figure out what I want to collect. Is there any rhyme or reason to it? Or do you just get what ever floats your boat? With all that there is available, I'm just not sure where to start.

Thanks for looking.     :campfire:

Riser is a bit smudged with finger prints...

Nice job! The hardest part is if you leave the original silk screen. It has to be feathered just right. Also a closeup of your lettering would be nice.

Thanks!

I tried leaving the "Ben Pearson" silk screen on the lower limb, feathered it and everything, but it was visibly yellow against the white. No matter how close I sanded it, it just didn't look right (think big yellow strip on nice white limb.) so I took it off.

I'll try to get some pics of my lettering in a bit. It's a little faint, I think it may have bled juuust a bit...    :knothead:

Edit: Here's the best pics I could get. Sorry...

Collect whatever makes you happy. I know people that collect only Bear. I also know a gal that likes to collect Browning's and yet another guy that collects just the unusual. So there are all types out there.

Nice job on a nice looking bow, beautiful wood!  As far as collecting I go with what ever feels right at the time, there are a lot of nice bows out there from a lot of good companies.
