Title: Help with a 58" Howatt hunter
Post by: poodlehead on October 11, 2012, 10:25:00 PM
I have a Damon Howatt Hunter with a sn#  HH6129
Bow is in excellent condition and untouched.
The problem is it is a 58". I have been told the Hunters was never made in 58" by several people.

Can anyone fill me in on the history of a 58" bow.

 Thanks ,Dan

Have you measured it? Could be a 62" and just mismarked. But I personally have never seen a 58". If she is it sounds like a rare gem.

Any pics?

That's my thoughts. The Hunter was never made in 58" but I have a couple mismarked bows on length from Howatt or a mismarked Hi-Speed. A lot of bows passing through that factory.

Posting pictures is beyond my ability.
If someone could post them ,I will send them by email. I had a 62" Hunter and the limb shape is different on the 58".Could it be the Hunter is marked wrong and not the length?

I'm no expert on Howatts, but believe they did make some 58" hunters in the late 70's.  If true, I will bet your bow is from 1976.

I see it strung and the brace height looks about right. How long is that string? If the string is 58", or very near to it, then the bow must be a 62" AMO bow.

I'm no expert but it looks like a late-1960s to  early-1970s riser to me. I hope Larry Hatfield or one of the other Howatt guys happens by and sees this thread.

Beautiful bow!

Mike

Bow is 58" and shoots awesome. I had a 62" bow I just parted with. I spoke to a guy who said he had 3 58" hunters over the years.
Thanks for the input Gang,  Dan
