Title: Colt Archery Division
Post by: bowhunterfrompast on September 22, 2012, 03:19:00 PM
I'm searching for any/all information about the Colt Archery Division.

I googled Colt Firearms and contacted their archives personnel. The only thing I found out,  was that Colt had an archery division in the past.

Both Wing Archery and Ben Pearson made bows for the Colt label.

Colt sold bows with the Colt Firearms logo but they did not make bows. Most bows sold by Colt were made by Wing and Pearson as mentioned. They also put there logo on cedar arrows made by other companies and sold those as well.

I picked up a gorgeous Colt bow at the TBW banquet last year.  Not a hunting bow, but a beautiful piece of rosewood, 68", 40#, and just a super nice bow!  Obviously, a Wing bow, and -to my eye- at least as pleasing as any rosewood P1 or P2 I've ever seen!  Shoots darn good too! Maybe I'm not praising Colt as much as Wing here, but -once again-the 60s Wing rosewood bows were simply World Class! Don't tell me the Bears all outshoot them-I don't buy it.(tho' some Bears might....). Given what he did in the 60s, Bob Lee  Archery ought to be making the best bows on the PLANET right now(no offense to them or anyone who loves their current bows...maybe they ARE that good...I just don't know them that well.) All I know is I like those early rosewood Wings!

First hunting bow I ever had was a 47 pound Colt recurve. Man I could shoot that thing, LOL.

Here's a Colt Game Master I sold earlier this year that was made by Wing.

That is one of the nicest bows I have ever seen!  Mr. Bob Lee, without a doubt, made some of the finest bows ever built on this earth. And he, although now 84 years young, is STILL making them today, along with his son Rob and family!

Thanks guys for the great information and bow pictures. As these threads below show, they sold broadheads manufactured by others.

Does anyone know when the Colt Archery Division started and ended?

Did they make any of their own archery gear or did someone else make all of the products for them?
