Just taking shot here.
Can anyone tell me what the spine weight of the MJ logs 8 are.
And how about inside diameter?

If my memory is correct they spine right around 60# and 2016's should fit for inserts or is it 1916's-can't remember. Am away from house or I could go out to shop and tell you for sure-have a few dozen #8's left in my private stash. A wonderful shaft that works out of 45-55# bows @ 28".

The #7 and #8 have the same inside dia. .265
OD for the 8 is .318
spine for 28" is 57#
11.9 gpi
This is also known as HS55.
1918 insert fits the #7 & 8....use epoxy
or you can epoxy 4-6" of 1/4" dowel and then sand a taper. I do that for mine. Clean the inside of the shaft first.

Thanks for the info guys. Your wealth of knowledge makes life so easy. I picked some up on the auction site. They are a pretty cool orange color. Gonna crown crest and fletch them this weekend. I'll share sime pics when they are done.

M.J. LOG made arrows under their name and also made the arrows for Herters. The glass shafts (from Gordon) for LOG were available in orange and the creamy/tan color which was the same tan as the Herters Farbenglas.
I heard that the M.J.LOG stands for something like- My Jesus Love Of/Our God.
This company was in Wyoming. I understood that the owner left at the end of the day, locked the doors and never reopened. Back in the late 90s a Wyoming resident bought the whole stock of arrows and was a very busy fellow selling these for a few years. Besides the glass shafts there were aluminum; the wonderful 1920 size that convinced many of us to switch to aluminum. Kelly got a lot of these also. Hindsight is a great tool....I look back now and wish I had bought many hundreds more!
I found the list of stuff he had for sale in Jan of 1999. Prices! Oh My! If only we could buy at these prices now...100 feathers $10. Aluminum Swift shafts-$125 @100
Perhaps Rusty or Kelly can fill in more stuff or correct my errors.

Believe the only correction is the place was in Billings, MT-at least that was the address on the boxes of fiberglass shafts shipped direct from Gordon Plastics in California. I had boxes of shafts that when opened they all were stamped Herter's Farbenglas. So much for Jacques P Herter claiming they were from Germany. When the owner closed the doors they remained closed until Rusty discovered these items and bought them. Many were locked up in an old railroad car.
I should have kept hundreds of these shafts but at the time was shooting heavier bows-Now that I can only shoot sissy bows sure could use 6, 7, and 8's. Still ahve about 75 of the 8's and some3's for thr young grandkids.

Waaaay cool, never dreamed I'd get so much info with just a couple simple questions, but glad I did.

Okay, one more question.
Why did the owner lock up and not come back? Anyone know the answer.
Interestingly, I was told by one of the big traditional archery suppliers that these shafts were not safe to shoot. I suppose they were trying to sell carbon arrows. I've shot a bunch of Micro-flite arrows so I'm thinking these will be just fine.

The Gordon shafts were just fine.
I think your expert in the shop was talking about the Aspen Gold shaft. There was an issue with the Gordon Aspen Gold shaft in the early to mid 80s. Somebody didn't check their shaft after side whacking a tree and had the arrow splinter on release. They sued Gordon so the shaft were pulled from the market. I killed a big bear with one of these in 1985 and still have and shoot the Aspen Gold.
You will find that the orange shaft seems to be slightly harder than the tan when you cut them. When I epoxy the inserts in I rub the excess glue around the shaft just above the insert. If nothing else that will reduce wear from shooting into dirt. If you hit the animal with every shot you won't have this problem.

I have a bunch of the MJ Log shafts and shoot them all the time and have no problems. Just check them like all other shafts after you hit something hard like a tree or rock.

To answer your question raghorn partially touched on this with what the MJ Log may have stood for(think he is pretty accurate) so add in a certain "state of mind" is probably close to the answer. Then he passed away and his spouse knew nothing of the business.

As promised, here's a couple pics of some stripped down, cleaned up and refinnished Mj LOG 8s. Made 6 of each. Will finally get to shoot them this weekend. I'm loving the orange!!!!!
