I have been shooting some of my recurves at a variety of weights in prep for ordering something custom.
Right now, I am looking at ordering a Chekmate Falcon, 46# @ 28. Any other recommendations for a bow under $300.00 that you get to customize like the Chekmate?
Who's shooting less that 50# for hunting? :archer:

I won a 60" 50@28 Super Falcon at last year's JLMBH. Awesome bow. Stable, quiet, quick and the grip doesnt let me strangle it(a bad habit Im slowly beating). All in all, you cant really go wrong with one of these bows.
I don't think you will beat the quality for the price. I hunt with 46-47# bows at 27". I shoot a heavy arrow with two blade broadheads. No problem.
Just got 2 50#'s in if your interested...haven't had time to put them on the website...both Falcon Specials...walnut risers with hickory limbs.

I sent you a couple of PM's on the Falcon deluxe. I just remembered, the other bow that's supposed to be a great value and shooter is the Quinn takedown bows. Haven't shot one, but though not as good looking as the ChekMates, a strong following of folks here on the TradGang.
The only real complaint I've heard about the ChekMates is some folks think the grip is a little big. I'm not big at 5'-9", and I like the way it feels. Steve
We have 3 Chek-mates in the family. A couple of Hunter 2s and a Falcon Deluxe. I don't think you will find a better bow for the money.I really hate to say that because I don't believe I would trade my H2 for any bow. The grips my be somewhat larger than others but personally I prefer them. My wife shoots a Hunter 2 and loves it.All 3 bows came from Chad Weaver at recurves.com.Really a great guy to deal with.

Chekmates are a very popular bow with Australian bowhunters. I own three Chekmates myself (2 Crusader longbows and an Attila recurve) and I won't be parting with them. I've shot plenty of bows over the years, but nothing shoots better than my Chekmates.

Australiamick, Hit the nail on the head. My (Hunter I) recurve is without a doubt the finest recurve that I have ever shot, and I have shot a few.
Just new on Tradgang , no shame to say that i have no knowledge about custom bows , i only shoot Bear " Grizzly " and last august i got a Chek-mate " Firebird " , that was a big step in bow shooting for me , love that bow and nothing to complain about it , too bad they don't build it anymore because i would order a new one ! just put a add on the classified section to find a other one or try my hand on a "hunter II "

I have shot a few Chekmate models. My personel favorite model is the Crusader. I bought one used in excellant condition from a good friend. It is 66" and 49@28 and I would never want to part with it. A real keeper. The Crusader is an excellant value in appeal, shootability and quality of workmanship.

I had a falcon, it was a great bow and for what I sold it for I wish I would have kept it. I had a plain jane, shedua and red elm model. It shot as good as a lot of higher priced bows. Only problem you may run into is that the handles tend to be large. Not a problem for me, but some dislike it. As far as bow weight, I took my first trad deer with a 45# Martin Mamba. Through both lungs and lodged into opposite shoulder blade...Mike
I have had several CM's in the past and being a curve guy, I really can shoot the dickins out of a H2! I foolishly sold/traded all my CM's off (note to self;keep the Checkmates fool!) but if I get another chance at a 60" 45-50# H2, I will hold onto it the next time around. It was one of those bows that no matter how long it sat, I can pick it up and nail anything with it. Great bows!

Thanks for the input fellas! I ordered one the other day and now have to wait. The good news is, I have plenty of bows to shoot in the mean time.
Take a look at a Vhek Mate Kings Pawn. Smooth shooting and very quit. Mine is the Deluxe version and 41lbs@28
