Title: Bitten by the Bear Bow Bug (Pics Added)
Post by: 1/4 away on August 09, 2012, 11:38:00 AM
As much as I love my modern longbows & recurves there's a part of me that is drawn to vintage Bear bows. I currently own a '66 Kodiak and am interested in a Bear T/d. Not knowing much about their worth, what can I expect to pay for one with a wood riser say 60" 50#@28"? Thanks.

Phil is correct...the 2012 bubinga version is excellent, especially at that price.

Charlie, I will never give up my Zipper or Big River bows, but there is something about the nostalgia of a Bear t/d thats calling to me. At least I know I'm in good company..  :bigsmyl:

Those vintage Bear bows are my weakness. I have two and just bid on another. Help! I think I'm addicted.

Good Luck. After posting the above I had to go shoot my '66 Kodiak. It is a sweet bow and quiet even with the vintage spring arm quiver. Quieter than my B.W. Cedar arrows and a Grayling Bear....it just don't get no better.

Well Fred - you got your first one.  It's all over with except for the crying!!!!!!

Read Sam's thread about looking for a cure.....for the Bear T/D disease!

Since I'm no help in this area, I will offer to contribute.....to making the craving even worse!  There is an early Type 1 A riser and 50# Grayling limbs all set up and tuned about 10 minutes or so away from you that you are always welcome to shoot a spell.  No guarantee that it won't cast it's own spell.

Congrats on your new riser!

At least you have the comfort knowing you have many fellow addicts nearby!

Looks good.....Now you need limbs? Are you going with Bear or one of the sources in the aftermarket?

Charlie, You're welcome to join me on this ride...LOL

Tony, I don't know how this addiction came to be but it definitely is strong!! I'll show you mine if you show me yours   :bigsmyl:  Seriously, I would love to come by and drool just a little. I'd be afraid to pick it up for fear I wouldn't want to put it down.

Ron, It's coming with a set of Bear limbs
      49#@28"

Fred I sure am glad you love this baby so much because I did until I wanted a Green stripe and thats how you ended up with this bow. I got my green stripe and was blown away at how smooth a 60 pounder could be because up to this point I had been shooting no more that 52 pounds due to an accident I had sustained. Now can I hold out in a full 3D to end I don't know yet. Will find out soon.

It hurt to let this one go but it was to move forward feeding addictions that will never end I realize.

Am I satisfied no I want the real one the I or the II but thats going to be a hole other price range to.

I don't know if I had mentioned it to you but your bow has some real MoJo it took a number of animals the ol feller I got it off. He was the original owner I was the 2nd owner and your the 3rd Fred.

I have a Red glass Big Jim and love that bow as well with 2011 limbs red tips. These grips are just awsome and its the same on yours Fred as this one and the Green stripe I can't even imagine the earl ones they all shoot so well even the Mags.

Just wanted others to know also Jim Gainey made me a set of limbs and they are incredable, smooth and fast and beautiful with Elk tips he did for me. I have asked him to make me a set of limbs that look like they came off a Supreme all glossed up so sooner or later I'll get those for my other Bear TD's heavier than my last set though.

it is an addiction for which I know no cure! I only have two takedowns. A new special B handle from Big Jim, and a Type 1 B handle signed. I like the Type 1 best.

i think that was why i spent my money for bills on it, my reasoning was the bills will always be there the bow will not.
