Great looking bows Nick.
It's nice to see a type 1 magnum. I haven't seen one in a long time.

Thanks Philip.

Those Type I and IIs are hard to find. Congratulations on completing the lineup!

Sweet.

Thanks Guys.
I have been looking for a Type I for some time. The 65#er filled the spot in the collection quite nicely!
-
Great Line up Nick
Did you say explosive because these bows have a history?
Looks like yours have never been used.
-
Yep, I said explosive because of the History behind the Type I's an II's. The ones in the pictures thankfully have not experienced "The Explosion" though!!!
-
Nick,
what a terrible thought
Glad yours made it unscathed and unsplintered!
-
Some beautiful lumber you got there!!

Beautiful bows!
So what was the reason for the "explosions" in the '63 doglegs (all models)?
I've heard it was not the design at fault, but rather a bad run of adhesives in some, not all, of them? Mostly the early models? Later production OK?
I had a '63 Kodiak that had been shot enough to wear out the original rest/plate. The rest of the bow looked new. I shot it quite a bit and never had a problem. Sold it to guy who appreciated/needed it more than I did.
I never could get good arrow flight off the shelf on that bow! With an elevated rest (any kind), no problem at all.

Only the Type I and Type II Kodiak Magnums "suffered" from the "explosion" problem.
There are alot of different schools of thought on what caused the problems. Step through stringing, glass not running down the back and belly side of the riser far enough, bad glue, etc.
The Kodiaks, Grizzly's Type I and Type II, Type III Kodiak Magnums and Cubs are all safe to shoot and very nice shooters.
-
I had a type I explode on me. At that time I did not know they would. It was one that had hung on the wall in the Grayling museum and had never been strung. Should have left it that way.
I had the limb glued back together but the limb does not have the same tight recurve as the unexploded limb.
It is now a nice wallhanger.

What a beautiful collection! Thanks for sharing!
-
I have a very nice Type 3. They're great shooters.
When I look at the Type 1 riser design I can now see why they would be prone to breakage.
-
That's a nice collection BTW.
I am a big fan of KMags. Have everyone from 1961 to 1967 and a '76 "Greenie."
