I am restoring a 59 Kodiak Special. It is my first resto project and I am having a blast doing it. The first sanding has shown me that I have a beautiful bow. I need the pros opinions on what you think about me leaving the original decals on it. I got it so that the discoloration is very tight to the original decals. I know that I would like it either way but I think this is kinda cool because it shows where the bow came from. Please dont give me that cheapo answer OH DO WHAT YOU LIKE BEST. Im on the edge with this and Im going to take a poll. Thanks guys!

I would leave the original decals if they are still in good condition.

I have done a couple that way. Getting in close to the decal was a bit difficult for me but with patience it came out just fine. I found you have to pay close attention as you build up a new finish and sand between coats so as not to cut into the decal. You will still make out the old patina between letters but I was pleased with the result. There are guy's here who can supply you with new one's though!!

Thanks for the first two responses

In the past I have used Minwax Wipe on Poly or Tru Oil. Post some pics as you go along. The 59 KS is a very nice looking bow with clean lines and nice wood.
