Please help with any info. I just got a Howatt Hunter ne plus ultra. Serial hhx3308-62". It has green limbs and a solid wood riser, looks like rosewood. Sorry but I can't figure out how to get photos up. Thanks.
-
What would you like to know about the bow?
-
1963 and made at the Howatt plant by Darwin Baldridge according to Larry Hatfield over at LW in your similar post.
-
Thanks for the info. Glad folks are so knowledgeable about these bows.
-
I think they are one of the most handsome bow from the 60s out there. Check this one out which I gave my son in Jan. for his birthday.

That bow is beautiful. I've been wanting to get one myself.

I just picked one up on the big auction site - a bit of a risk as the picture did not show too much of the bows condition. The guy selling it says it is in great shape - so we will see...
I've always been a Bear guy but after picking up 2 Howaat Diablos, one 54" and the other 58", that are just plain beautiful and shoot great - I thought I'd try this bow.
I'm guessing its an early 60's bow - the serial number is HW46187 and it is a Howaat Hi Speed NE Plus Ultra.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Terry, Congrats on getting that one. Now I know who outbid me! HAHA. Please post pics when you get it. I am guessing 1961.
-
I have a few 1963's, They are awesome looking and awesome shooting bows.
-
Hey Nick - sorry about that but I've gotten bit by the vintage Howaat bug!
The Diablos I have are works of art - the risers are as gorgeous a mix of woods as I've ever seen and the distinctive sculpting of the riser shape is just plain cool! I know a little about dating them - just enough to know they were made in 63, 64 or 65.
The few NE Plus Ultras that have a similar look that I've seen some of you more knowledgeable guys post about were all dated from 59 - 61.
I'll post some pictures of all 3 when this one shows. :)

Reddogge, beautiful bow.
What type of string do you have on it?
Trying to tune mine up... having a great time shooting it.

Terry, HAHA. No worries! Good luck with it!!
-
Not sure of the string. It's the one the person sent me when I bought it. It's a B50 though.

Can some of you Howatt gurus shed some light on the ne plus ultra please,
What models was it on and what years? Early sixties I gather.
Was ne plus ultra a model or ???
it seems like it has been on a couple of different models.
I Just love them old Howatts,
-
I was wondering the same thing Chuck. I think I've seen it on different models too.
I have recently come to really appreciate the older Howaats - many are drop dead beautiful - and the 2 Diablos I have now are real snappy shooters.

I hope not to receive a ton of hate mail but as a group Howatt bows make Bears look like firewood.
Now let it be known I have over 90 Bear bows mostly higher end ones in my collection, met Fred several times, have written artcles on their bows in " Hunting and Fishing Collectibles" magazine but what those fellars in Yakima did with Rosewood is out of this world.
P.S. I do love my Bears but I'd sleep with the Howatts !!!!!!!
