Several days ago our local game warden informed me that it is no longer possible to transport a whole deer carcass across the border into Ontario it must be processed. Also any deer head that has not been either mounted or consists of only the skull cap with no brain matter will be confiscated at the border. Has anyone else heard of these changes?

It's been that way for a year and a half now. Processed only or cleaned skull/horns no brain matter. In other words if bringing home to mount head needs to be caped out and skull cleaned. Rules put in place to prevent spread of CWD and other diseases.
Thanks Dave, this fall we crossed and informed the guard that we had been hunting and had taken deer but we were never asked if they were processed or if we had any heads. However according to the game warden they will much more vigilant in checking.

We are being told the raw cape cannot be brought in it must tanned.Have you heard this?
Not 100% sure on that but that seems to be what I read Charlie. 99% of the time we are in transit from Canada to US and then back into Canada so different rules apply in this situation.
Related to this, here in Nova Scotia this year the regulations read "No person shall, while in a wildlife habitat, possess or use a product that contains or purports to contain any body part of a member of the deer family, including urine blood or other fluids..." technically this would include antler or tanned deerhide, though I've heard that they're only interested in banning scent products.
I don't know what the rules are in other provinces.
