I like seeing what other people carry and why, I carry a case yellow handled trapper, best knife I've ever had!, I carry a hendrix made hunter when hunting
I carry a sheath knife on my belt all the time. Its a Schrade 171UH - a heavy bladed knife that is super strong.
I use it for cutting baling twine; and as I would an axe when I have too.
I also carry a pocket knife - a cheap folding knife with a blade that locks open. It has a beveled edge; and half the blade; the lower part is serrated.
Its so cheap; I cannot find a name on it. But then I sharpen my knives so often that they tend to shrink after a while :)
For field dressing elk and deer etc; I use the folding knife. I also carry a small file; in case I have to resharpen the blade.
I use my knives all the time; and I think a knife like my Schrade which has a large hilt- is what you need for self defense against man or beast; as it keeps your hand from slipping forward.
I think it is kinda foolish to have a folding knife that doesn't lock open. Just my opinion; and I have the scars to back up my opinion :(
For work I carry an el cheapo fixed blade thing I won in a raffle,,it's cheap but sharpens up to scary sharp very fast an easy.
As a hunting knife I have an 8" bowie made by local knife maker "Brian Baker" of Svord Knives.
Nothing fancy, just very sharp and well made.
For butchering things I use Victornox.
A bone handle case trapper, yellow handle case muskrat for the small work.
everyday carry knife is a cold steel spectre
for hunting a cold steel mini california drop point hunter or sog northwest ranger
also have a camillus cuda cqb2 coming which should be great
A Coast lockback for everyday, and a nice drop point belt knife when hunting.
I have carried several production knives and still do from time to time. But since I have started making Custom Knives, I've really begun to appreciate the difference. They do tend to cost more than productions, but generally so do the bows.
For those that prefer Custom Bows, a Custom Knife would fit well into your equipment. There are several makers with websites who make knives to order from various materials and for different uses. These guys test there knives, sometimes to destruction, to get the most out of the steel. I recommend Ray Kirk of the Cherokee Nation.

No links to nonsponsors.
For work I use either a Benchmade Griptilian,or a CRKT M21-14.
For hunting and such,I usually have at least 2 different Damascus knives on me.They get rotated quite a bit.One on my armguard, and then rotate thru the 5 or 6 customs I have.
I carry a number of them for different reasons. My prized possesion is a dandy Tippit knife I won in the St. Judes auction a couple years ago and don't leave home without it.
Then I have a straight blade Buck knife that my grandmother gave to me as a birthday gift some 40 years ago. It was my first real good knife. She was a special lady to me, and her knife rides in my pack on most hunts.
I also usually have a Sharade leightweight folder tucked in as a backup. Not too many trips when I need them all, but I like having them with me just the same.
I've carried a Buck 501 lockblade since I was 14 for everyday use. I have worn out a couple but always replace it with the same model.
For hunting I like a fixed blade and I have a couple style Buck knives I like.
I also have a small Bark River fixed blade I have trying out.
Either an Emerson CQC 7 or a Benchmade Griptillian for every day.For hunting I have so many I switch often but I usually pack the Benchmade as a spare.
I carry 3 knives when hunting, 2 Dozier customs (Master Hunter & Bird & Trout models) and 4" Case Trapper. All 3 are razor sharp and ready at all times. I gotta say though "those Doziers are the sharpest knives and have incredible edge retention". They are the only custom that I have ever been willing to spend so much money on and will again.
My EDC is a Camillus Heat (robo assit), Becker Necker (neck knife), a leatherman wave, a fire steel that fits in the sheath of the leatherman and a braclet made out of 15' of 550 cord. When I go hunting I just add my BK 7 made by Ethan Becker.
Old Timer 8OT is my everyday pocket knife. I have a CheatR knife made by Frank that I got as a White Elephant from a fellow tradganger. A few other knives that rotate in and out while hunting but always carry a Wyoming knife for gutting.
Depends on the "mood for the day". Any number of folders (as I have about 30-40). Funny thing is that my "favorite" is probably the cheapest one, an Opinel with a high carbon blade. It can be made wicked sharp, and is just so darn simple. Plus, if it gets lost, I'm only out about $5-$8. When it comes to hunting, I use a fixed blade. Mostly production ones with slender blades (KOA Bear Cub or Jager, Gorhmann T&B or Camper, or a couple other odd ball ones that I just liked). Some day I will have one from Doug C, or other makers here, just haven't had the opportunity.
Some have a "bow sickness", for me it is knives. Not from a collector perspective or needing some really high priced item, but just shapes or styles I like. Though it must hold an edge.
the best knife I carry is a "Emerson"...used these for long time...gave one to my daughter boyfriend for his 2nd tour in Iraq, one of Americas best , a Marine!
I carry a Benchmade AFCK almost everyday. I've had for about 10 yrs. In fact, I bought a spare because of the old saying, "If you find something you really like, they will quit making it." BTW- I think they did quit aking it.
For hunting I carry any of a couple favorite belt knives. Lately, its been a Grohman canadian hunter. I also like the Helle Harding, but I have given all the ones I made away.
Carl
My EDC is a Spyderco Military. When I go hunting I add a Buck folder in a pouch.I am looking to replace the Buck with a Dozier.
For years I carried a Spyderco, good knive easy to keep sharp, now I have a Gerber Rex Applegate Covert folder. When hunting I carry my fathers very old Navy issue Camillus belt knive.
Either a Helle Polar or Harding knife that I made up and a Buck 110.
My pocket knife if a Swiss Army Camper. While hunting, I use different size custom drop point sheath knives, which I mostly leave in my pack until needed.
all most every time i go hunting i have a different knife. i am not sure what they are called. ;)
My EDC is a customized Swiss Army, I rehandled it in bocote, and now it is much more fun than red palstic.
I carry a Becker BK9 in the pack, an AO "Scallion" clipped to the pants pocket for easy one handed access and some other knife from Cabelas that came free with a magazine subscription-oh, and a Helle Veiderjman or something like that. Wait a minute-I think I am carrying too many knives!!! :jumper:
Most often I carry a sheath knife I made. Blade came from a catalog and is Soligen steel. Is sharp and stays that way. The handle is an antler from a 2 1/2 year old buck I killed with a recurve a bunch of years ago. The recovery required a nasty uphill drag over rocky terrain, resulting in nearly total loss of hair on one side of the animal. The other knife (other antler) went to the friend that helped drag the deer out!!! Good thing we were lots younger then.
For EDC I rotate between:
1) Benchmade Mini-Griptilian (this usually goes hunting with me as well).
2) Spyderco Navigator
3) Swiss Army Vox (very slim and trim with only the big blade and a combination bottle opener/screwdriver/wire stripper)
4) Swiss Army with a few more accessories on it.
5) A.G. Russell Woodswalker (fixed blade) which carries in a leather sheath in the back pocket.
**I end up carrying the Swiss Army Vox more than anything these days, it's got everything I need for the suburban/office environment and eases my fear of being stuck with a good craft beer and no opener.
Hunting:
1) Love my Helle Harding!
2) Spyderco Bill Moran (fixed blade) with drop point blade.
3) Buck folder from 1994 (not sure of the model?) with a 3" hollow ground blade, it takes a breast off turkey or pheasant like a laser.
4) Helle Steinbit - great fillet knife that also doubles as a boning/kitchen type knife.
Hunting I carry a small trade-style neck knife with a firesteel-magnesium stick included into the sheath. In my pack I carry a Helle Fire, best knife ever for taking apart an elk (ask dave2old), and whenever I am in the woods I carry a puukko style knife on the belt. Actually just ordered two new puukkos! A Kellam and a Finnish one with a Finnish brand name I can't type in.
Mike
A Knives of Alaska Cub with stag handle and an old Gerber Folding Sportsman in my belt pouch for deer hunting. A small Western fixed blade knife for small game.

Well Lin that is pretty damn modest...........
I have seen your site and your work is amazing. I just have not had the time to call you about a knife. I would carry one of your knives with great pride!
Beautiful Work!
Tim,
Thanks. I just forged up a damascus billet from which I hope to make me a knife. I sold my personal knife right off my belt the other day. I really wanted to keep one just for me, but I can make another.
The one I will make me will have a 4 inch dropped point blade of damascus, a Stainless guard and pins and Sheephorn for the handle scales. I like the Sheephorn for several reason, but mostly because it stays grippy even when wet.
There are a lot of good production knives and I have some too, but when it comes time to rely one one in a serious way, I like the idea of it being custom built for that specific purpose. That's just me.
Holler at me anytime Tim. I can tell you about how I took the Hog in my avatar.

Hey Lin............
Funny you mention that knife as that is exactly what I was thinking about. If it is available I am very interested. Why don't you shoot me a PM with the details about time frame and price. I need a knife like that to go with my bows.
Tim
I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion auto EZ-out lockblade all the time everywhere. So quick & useful for everything from dispatching a road-casualty deer to gutting an arrow-shot one, to numerous other tasks. Also I carry a Gerber brand Wyoming knife for zipping open animals to gut them. Very light, very handy in the backpack!
Aurora Hunter by our own Numitokayo.
I only carry one knife. Doug Campbell Caper! Just the right size and shape.
Mike that is a Very nice Knife, Daniel makes quite a blade from what I have seen and Sylvie is quite the leathersmith too!
Sheath knife - Helle, buck or browning.
i cary a short skinny old gerber, makes the pooper cuts really easy and is easaly inserted in the neck for bleeding.
Day-to-day; I carry a CRKT M-16 in my back pocket and a Swiss Army single balde in my front pocket.
Hunting; I have a Buck Tactical in my back pocket. Schrade sharp finger, High Pockets skinner, Gerber Gator II, Buck three blade inmy pack. There's probably one or two others I forgot about floating around in there as well.
My belt knife, was my Grandfather's it has " Sabatier Agierfondo" on the blade. I think it is french but not sure?
I really like Gerbers. They don't cost a fortune and they take and hold a great edge.
I carry a Gerber LST folder (pretty much always) and whatever the heck their slab handled sheath knife is called.
True to my Florida upbringing, I carry a Randall , either an Alaskan skinner(11-4),Hunter(3-5),Trapper(25-5),Little Game (21-3), Bushmaster(19-5)or the Trout and Bird (8-4). Dad started me out with the Hunter as a Christmas present 30 years ago. Usually it's that knife or the Alaskan Skinner that I carry, depending on my mood(the Bushmaster when I feel adventurous)
I have a few myself. The only time I don't have my leatherman wave on me is when my pants are lying on the floor. I also favor a Benchmade Stryker for a pocket knife. I prefer a fixed blade when hunting. This S30V drop point is made by Bryan Baker from Boise (works for Chris Reeves);
I also rotate a Buck Vanguard and a Cold Steel Outdoorsman thru the mix. The S30V is some hard stuff! Oh to own/carry a Randal 25-5. Maybe one of these days...
JL
Usually one of these. The Randall 3-5 ends up cutting up most deer.
For EDC I have a single blade trapper made by Don Morrow.
Randal1 #26 Pathfinder or Jimmy Lile # 7....
While hunting I carry a custom by Lin Rhea. As Tim mentioned previously, Lin is being very modest, and obviously doesn't like to toot his own horn. I also have a Bowie of his I intend to use as a camp knife. He is right on with the sheephorn, as it has a nice tacky feel when wet. The hunter is extra special as my wife had it made for me. I'm a sucker for Buckeye burl and the ebony spacer matches the ebony riser in my hunting bow.

Hi SquirrelBait, that Sabatier blade you have from your granddad is made by famous French cutlers. They make some of the very best kitchen knives as well as blades for kitchen equipment Moulinex Cusinart etc. I picked up a filleting knife for R10 at a store sellout. I could not believe my luck! The high carbon blade was rusted a bit and the new shopowner said they wouldn't carry such a 'poor quality' knife again. Ha, a little care and she's a beauty, you can shave with her any day you like. (R10 = $3.50!!)It's one of two I use every single day in the kitchen, the other is a Zwilling Drizak 10" chef's knife had them for twenty years, two good friends.
For hunting No9 Opinel, leatherman supertool and Helle 4" blade I made up to match my bow, plus spare small fixed custom in my pack, plus small hawk on my quiver.
chrisg
Outside the house,I carry a Benchmade Stryker,While driving, I add on a Cold Steel para edge neck knife,at home,a Spyderco Endura is at my waist. My wife carries a Spyderco Wegner mini.
While hunting,I carry a Buck mentor or a bowie or a bolo.
Gil
For everyday use I carry a pinkerton, was custom made my son who is in the Airforce had it made for me. For hunting I have a buck.
For everyday use, I always carry my Kershaw Scalion, and for hunting it's my custom skinner made for me by Highpockets.
Mike
Buck 110 is my workhorse. You can never carry too many knives though.
Hunting:
1968-1970ish Othello Yukon Hunter Rosewood handle Solingen Germany. Easy to sharpen to razor's edge and it will hold that edge. You'll have to kill me to get it.
1970 Buck Stockman Large blade model. Hard as h*** to sharpen but has sentimental value.
Every Day:
Swiss Army Victorinox Executive. Bigger than the Classic but fits well in the pocket without being uncomfortable.
A brother in Christ built me a hand forged huntin' knife hafted with a chunk of yella wood left over from the bow that Herb made. The wood was from an Osage tree that my dad and I cut before he passed. Both the bow and knife are really special to me.
Prarrie Dog

That pic makes me weak in the knees every time I see it. If you ever decide to sell it send me a pm first. I can't get enough of that knife!!
A Gerber with a gut hook.

Lin, i am lovin that knife in your avatar. did ya take that hog with it ?
Jack,
Yea, I did, but the dogs helped too. That hog had the best cutters of any we've taken even though he was not very big in comparison to some. We weighed him at 220 lbs.
The knife has an 11 inch blade of my damascus.
I've got a Benchmade - I've forgotten what it's called-- ~3" tanto frame lock folder that I belt-clip to my pant waist. Very handy.
In the field, I've tried carrying a sensible and very servicable Solingen 4" bowie style -- but I find myself regretting that I left my KBar behind.
The KBar is one that I've had for 36 years! (Uh-oh: I got old, somehow!) The secondary bevels have been polished and blued and the edge just seems to stay "right" despite all the nicks I've had to sharpen out of the thing. I use it to clean up blinds and stands and slip through green briar: just a flick of the wrist and the briars fall to the ground. It works on deer and hogs, too.
For skinning, a full-tang Schrade Old Timer with a very dropped-pointed 3-1/2" blade: four deer this year and only on the last one did I think, "This knife is going to need some attention, soon."
I carry an old Remington fixed blade 5 inches and razor sharp for hunting and victorinox/benchmade for pocket carry. I have had a victorinox for at least 30+ years now. They just do everything, from cutting your sandwich to tighting a loose screw or opening your favorite adult beverage/can of beans. don't leave home without it!
This is my new toy! It'll be my go-to fixed blade, from now on (or until I make another! :D )

This is never out ofmy pocket....

A very small Chinese folder. Best quality production folder I've ever owned!
i carry the knife i got from my granddad when he past away last year that he carried in ww2. his uncle that raised him made it at work in the cotton mill before he shipped out. i only where it when i hunt 3-d targets.(ha,ha). i do not want to damage it. will try to get a pict soon
b-dog
One made by Henry from Ely, Minnesota and or a leatherman.
Here's my EDC. A single blade trapper made by Don Morrow from down in Texas. Nice and slim profile. About 3 & 3/4 inches long in the pocket with a 3 & 1/2 inch blade of ATS34. Handfiled scrollwork on the backspring and the blade. Amber bone handles.

Lin , NOW THATS A KNIFE SIR!!! love ur work!...I started collecting knives when my granddaddy gave me case barlow...I have , well a bunch of them...my sod buster skins a bunch small game!!My "Jon Greco" skinner is the sharpest and best hunting skinner I own!!!for hunting... :goldtooth:
I have a Shrade old timer with a gut hook on my possibles bag. I carry a Gerber pelvic saw in the possibles bag and either a buck 110 or a Gerry Resner custom knife.
For hunting I carry a drop point knife, about 4"blade.It was made by Tim Zowatta in Michigan, and the blade is damascus,185 layers,I think. The scales are sheep horn if I remember right. I got it at the banquet auction for WVBA. It is a really good knife.
After Mon., I now carry a homemade antler handled, fertelizer buggy, bearing race, hammered knife. Deadly razor edge on it.
DR
Danny, pics when you get chance. I've a weakness for hammered knives.

I always worry about only having a folder in my pocket, and needing to maybe cut myself out of a shoulder harness hanging from a tree..or whatever..so I like a belt knife.
OK Ray, who made that knife?? That's exactly the style knife I'm looking for; good handle length with a nice blade.
Here's a couple of mine. TheSmall AG knife I made for my Tim Roberts AG. the Antler handle one I got from Donnie Rowan as a gift(I love this knife) and the Bigun was made by My buddy Loyd Lippert. Bill,
The knife sits on the outside of your forearm,no interferance at all.I love mine....might forget to put my knife on my belt or around my neck, but won't forget the bracer and always have at least 1 knife with me that way.
Here's my newest, that I'm packin in the woods!! Karl Anderson, KBA Knives made this one for me!!! So far, it's gutted an antelope, 9 pt whitetail, and gutted and skinned 1 buffalo, and part of another!!!
9 inch Bowie blade, forged from a bar of Rados Single-twist Damascus of W2 and 203E.
The handle is a nice piece of Desert Ironwood stabilized by WSSI.
The fittings are wrought iron - deeply etched. (The finial is stainless) In a takedown configuration!

Karls' knives are great knives. How do you like the take down feature? You did good.

oh come on...where are the K-Bar fans?
Right now, I usually carry on of these...Doc

my knife was made by Herb Derr...he made the whole thing, sheath included. Member of KGA and Bladesmith Society I believe.
It is as functional as it is beautiful..and I like that he built the entire thing...and not just assembled pieces from others.
The two small knives were made by sticshooter. The kydex sheaths were made by me.
My wife carries the little one on the left, I carry the little one on the right. The center knife was made by HighPockets & is the knife I carry while in the woods.

Hundreds of years from now, when these relics are discovered, they will learn we loved or knives and our work. I have Buck, Kershaw, Ruana Schrade, and a good Old Timer in my pocket. The jewels stay locked up until needed. I'm currently favor the Cold Steel carbon when out on the war path.
Ray,
Hmmmm, I have seen that knife somewhere before LOL.
Hope it is serving you well. I just couldnt bring myself to use it, and I hate a knife I wont use. Thinking of parting with a couple more of my "safe queens".
To answer the original post, I pretty much carry nothing but Dozier made knives now. Cuttin-est things I have ever seen. Usually one of these.

Hi Lin, That takedown feature is awesome, come cleanup time!!! After workin on those 2 Bufflers all afternoon, layed out in the grass, it needed a good cleanin'! Stropped it a bit, and it still popped hair off your arm!
