Here is all 3 lengths of the '59 Kodiak with maple sight window in all original condition. The 56 incher was recently acquired from a fellow trad ganger (the deal was made with his father actually)to both our satisfaction. Thanks again Alex. It is with pleasure I present these pics, a small tribute to the late Al Reader. I miss not being able to call Al and talk bows. These photos were as much his dream as they are mine. I hope you enjoy.

I'm sure this is as close as I'll ever get to those three. They certainly look good together. What a Treat.
Thanks for the Pics!!!!!!

Thanks guys, always a pleasure to share the old kodiaks with everyone.
Jim- the 3 bows are 64" 50#, 60" 50#, 56" 35#

The Tri-fecta....very nice. Al was the best no doubt about it. He was always willing to share his knowledge of Bear bows. I remember talking about "Heavy Hitters" years ago...seems like yesterday.
-
Chuck- Very nice looking set of Bears right there. Thanks for sharing them.
-
You just never know what bows are out there to be discovered. Just when we think we've seen it all, something else shows up. I'm sure more will surprise us in the future. Keep digging through those old barns John.
With all due respect and honor I am naming this 56" msw "Top Kodiak". I'm sure everyone will understand.
-
I understand. Very thoughtful.
-
Looking at a 56" maple sight window '59 on thee "Bay right now.
Should be interesting to watch these bidders over the next 6 days.
-
Wow...beautiful bows!!
-
Such a nice bow Tony, but it's really a shame that it is not in a good hunting weight
-
I have a feeling that a ton of good stuff is coming.
The new 59s from Bear have shaken up all of us old geezers and many young bloods think the name "Fred Bear" refers to a stuffed toy bear.
Check out the 2015 classifieds when you get a chance.
Too rich for my blood right now, but tempted.
-
The one for sale appears to be a pretty clean bow but I bet that it was a ladies bow at that length and weight.
I pulled my real 1959 off the rack and started shooting it two weeks ago. I have yet to string up the new 1959 and it has been here for 23 months now.
-
Wow that 1959 56" MSW went for a measly 676 bucks! Who knows how big that bid really was but picked up cheap! If the lucky winner is one of us- Congrats! Please post some pics! :archer:
-
mighty pretty
-
I couldn't believe it went for so cheap... wow.
-
A 1960 sold for over 700 dollars just a while ago proving what we already know, you can never predict what something will sell for at auction

I know prices are down but that's one heck of a deal. A few years back that might of gone for 3 times as much. Missed the boat on that one. :banghead:
-
As I recall a RH 56"1959 MSW went for right around 2000.00, 3-4 years ago.

Alright fellas, been awhile since posting any pics.Been a real busy year and just haven't had alot of time to do the whole photobucket thing to post pics.such a pain in the butt. But I figured now would be a good time to put a few out there for all us "collectors" still out there.I read some of you were wondering about this little gem so here it is.My latest aquisition,a beautiful, near mint,100% original 1959 maple sight window Kodiak in the hard to find length of 56".I personally only know of two others but I'm sure more will surface. When, who knows. But I am very happy to have completed, albeit unintentionally, the tri-fecta of maple sight window '59 Kodiaks.Couldn't beat the price.Pictures aren't great.Took 'em all outside on this sunny day for a few quick photos but had to hurry. As you can see in one of the photos,my Boxer pup Otis really enjoyed seeing the tri-fecta too but I was worried he might also like to see how they tasted. So I didn't get real creative with the pics.Maybe later.Bow is the bottom one in the photos. One of the cleanest '59 Kodiaks I've ever owned.Anyhow, here they are.Enjoy!!

Otis is wondering "who's been sleeping in my bed?" Looks like all three of the bears.Papa Bear, mama bear, and baby bear!! Sorry, couldn't help myself. LOL

Nice John!
Always a treat to see your eye candy pics and informative post's. Congrats on the dream lineup. Looks like Otis already appreciates and knows quality Bears when he see's them.
-
Thanks Larry.I do love sharing photos on here with everyone.I'm the same way and really enjoy seeing what all is out there.Just such a pain with photobucket and all you have to go through. But this was a speacial occasion.Glad you liked them.
And I think Otis does appreciate the old Bears, but I'm not sure if it's for the right reasons.I'm afraid they all look like big, tasty chew toys to him! :biglaugh:

Great looking bows John, thanks for sharing!
-
Yes, John, very nice looking bows.
Congratulations, it is truly a milestone in a Bear Archery Collectors lifetime, to acquire all three lengths of the 1959 Kodiak Maple Sight Window.
You are only the third person I know of with all three lengths, with the 56" length being the difficult length to find.
Surprisingly, all three of these 56" lengths have surfaced only within the past few years.
After I acquired that first 56" Maple Sight Window ("The Little Rascal"), I was certain it was not the only one produced, and strongly suspected that others would surface someday. Never figured three would surface so close together after none surfacing for so many years.
Just a shame that Al Reader isn't around to see the three of them now as it was one of the six Kodiaks that he was still looking for when he passed away.
-
Wade,
Yes I had heard that it was one of the few bows that Al didn't have yet . He would have loved to have seen these three little gems. The maple sight window Kodiaks have always been one of the nicest looking Bear bows ever produced in my opinion. The contrast of that dark rosewood riser and that light maple sight window trimmed with the dark accent stripe really is an eye catcher. I feel very fortunate to be the newest member of the "Tri-fecta" MSW club. What a great picture it would be to have all three of the 56"ers together.
-
Thanks for posting Johnny.

Alex Beer posted this one in June 2012:
