Title: Questions on the early (1948-1953) Bear cub bows

I need my memory refreshed on my early Cub bows, I'm guessing they are between 1948 & 1953 because they have the running bear decal on them.

Are these considered longbows ?  The string don't touch the limb after the nock. Are they typically considered a pretty tough bow as I occasionally shoot the 50 pound one.

Mine has pretty bad handshock, any cure for that ?  

Any & all info would be appreciated as I like to know the history & background on stuff like this & this time I will print the info so I have it.

The Cub longbow came out in 1952. I'd say your Cubs would be either that first year or 53.

They were called reflex bows. If you are getting alot of hand shock you may want to try a longer string.

You could try string dampners and shoot a heavier shaft. These kind of bows I shoot like longbows so I have a tendency to put more palm into my grip. These are nice shooting bows when matched up with the right arrow. Jack is right! First out in 52.

Thanks for the info & Advice !  I really like these bows as I'm a longbow lover & you don't see a million Bear longbows out there unless were talking about the new Montana.

Lots of old Bear Polar longbows out there too.

I wonder why the longbows don't have as big a following, 90% of these pages are filled with Kodiacs. I think there are more Kodiacs out there than Black Widows or any other big modern name bow I can think of.

Anyone know what the brace height on an old one like this should be? And what is the correct way to measure the brace height on an old one like these? Thanks guys. I have been searching the site for the correct answer but am coming up empty handed.
