Title: Grizzly Stick Sitka's
Post by: cajuntec on December 13, 2007, 07:05:00 PM
Anyone here shoot these?  Comments?  I'm trying to work up a new arrow for the 2008 hunting season to practice with all this year... and I'm totally up in the air about what to buy.

Comments, good or bad, would be very appreciated.

All the best,
Glenn

I shoot the Alaskans and Safaris exclusively..........

I can't say enough about them. My Alaskans are about 685 Grains and my Safaris are around 900 Grains..........

I shoot heavy bows 76lbs to 82lbs  but I love these arrows.

And Ed is an awesome guy to deal with and stands behind everything............ even his nocks!

Tim,
Thanks for the response.  Are the nocks specific to these arrows, or can you use a standard nock such as a Easton Super Nock?
All the best,
Glenn

Actually Ed is now  making all the shafts with the slide in nocks.

The Safaris had an aluminum insert that the nock is glued onto. In my last conversation with him he told me all the arrows were going to have the same nock system.

I had an issue with my 82# Tip breaking some pink nocks was the reason for my statement. I asked him about it and 2 days later I have a bag of assorted nocks in all sorts of colors.

The guy is a stand up guy and is always there to help.

You will be pleased with the quality and appearance of these shafts. I can't say enough about them.

I just LOVE my Sitkas! I can't think of anything bad to say about them. I think the tapered shaft makes it so compatible with all sorts of bows. And they hit hard, too.

They are a great shaft and will let you shoot a wide range of weight in the tip.  I find them to be very forgiving.

Thank you JBiorn and Bill Tell.  I appreciate the responses.

JBiorn,
I note you shoot a 54# bow with these.  Do you think they will be compatible with the 47# bow that I shoot?  My draw length is approx 26 3/4, and I normally shoot a 28 1/2" or longer arrow tipped with a 145 grain screw in broadhead - weighted if necessary.

All the best,
Glenn

I don't see why they wouldn't. I suspect you will have to play around with weights a bit.

jbiorn,
How much weight up front?  I have 55# bows and was wondering if the Sitkas would work for me.

I'm using 145gr right now----I am going to experiment with some heavier ones though in hopes that tapered shaft will afford me that kind of flexibility with weight.

I'm shooting the sitka's out of a 52# R/D longbow, 29-inch BOP with a 170 gr broadhead. Very tough shaft and shoots great.

I tried some a few years ago.  They were ok but I saw nothing in them that made them better than any lower priced carbon.  I actually thought there was quite a bit of inconsistency from shaft to shaft.  Sounds like the design has changed some over the years to improve them.

After posting about these on several sites, a suggestion came from a few people - Arrow Dynamics Trad-Lite shafts.  After doing a bit of research into them, I decided to buy a dozen today.  Whew! Thats the most I've paid for shafts in a long time!  I hope I like them.  I was suprised at how much people absolutely loved the AD Trad-Lites on other forums I posted on - both in replies and PM's.

Thanks everyone!
All the best,
Glenn

I have been shooting the Sitka`s with fantastic results. My assenheimer #46 @ 28" will shoot them like darts. I cut them to 29", put a 125 grain broadhead or field point on them and that is all i do. Best arrow flight ever. They are not cheap, $60.99 for six. but they fly great.

I normally avoid the technical stuff but when I look at the deflection for the Traditional Lites it says the deflection is 350. That seems to be pretty stiff to not have to load them up in the front for bows in the 40-50# range. Am I missing something?
