Title: Vintage Blackhawk
Post by: Hipshot on February 08, 2012, 11:56:00 AM
I hope you guys don't mind but I have some vintage bows I'd like to get some information on, like history, date made, quality and so on. I've collected these over the years and have been away from the sport for a good while. I'm gettin back into it and value all your opinions. This one is a Blackhawk Brand and is 64" 48# @ 28". Red glass with light colored wood riser. Yellow Jacket model.

Like the label says made by Cravotta Bros. Some time in the 60's. Maybe some one else can narrow down the exact year. They sold alot of bows under the blackhawk name as well quivers etc. They made some short ones 48 or 50 inches and those seem to be more common than the longer ones. I see the short ones alot and have only acquired a few of the longer ones like your 64". They used some real bright color glass on some bows that really stand out.

maybe early 60s, but not later. My first longbow was a Blackhawk just like that, same model. Mine had bright yellow plastic on the back face and white on the belly side.  That's right, that's not fibreglass but simply a plastic of some sort.  A lot of the Cravotta Bros bows had the same stuff.  Look at yours and/or the other models- you won't see any glass fibre in there.  Mine was actually a pretty darn good shooter. 50#. I wish I still had it.

Thanks, yeah I think your right. Kind of a neat bow. This one doesn't look like it's had much use at all.
