Title: What year is this static recurve Grizzly?
Post by: portugeejn on January 29, 2012, 10:28:00 PM
I have read all the internet stuff I can find, but can't really narrow this down any further.  It has the running bear decal and the patent applied for decal, but it is definitely red glass, not blond glass, which I read is what you would expect with those decals.  It has no aluminum lamination, which would put it after 1951 (or at least part of 1951).

Is it a 1952 with red glass, or a 1953 with old stock decals, or ????  I give up.

I would say it's a 1953,probably an earlier '53.The '52 Grizzly has more of a caramel colored glass and the '54 would have the larger standing bear decal.I have seen both '53 Kodiaks and Grizzly's with the running bear logo such as yours and the standing bear logo.

Thanks John.  Any suggestions as to brace height on these?  I'm hoping to get back to Michigan this year (my wife it from there), so maybe I can take it back with me for a visit.

The Grizzlies follow the same convention as the Kodiaks: Blond glass 1952-red glass 1953. Stickers can easily get lost and could have been replaced. These bows respond well to a low brace-I have shot mine at 6 1/2" and they are fun to shoot!

Thanks Bjorn,

The bow has what looks to be the original string with it(i.e. quite old), so I carefully put it on to see what the brace height was.  It measures at 7 1/2 inches, but that seemed a bit high to me.  I will make a new flemish string and try the lower height.
