Title: Oddball Bear Take-Down Limbs
Post by: OldSkoolArcher on January 17, 2012, 07:12:00 PM
I picked up these limbs about a year ago and have been looking for a riser that they fit. I have had no luck.
The limbs have the normal Bear Take-Down Silkscreen but as you can see they are bolt down limbs. The plates on the bottoms of the limbs are a plastic material and appear to fit a riser that has a semi-circular casting in the limb pocket similiar to some of the early Bear Compound Risers. shick (Thanks Denny) hooked me up with a riser that I though would work but the casting isn't the same width and the spacing between the limb bolt and casting is different. So I am stumped

Oh Yea, "Some Guy" scribbled on them.

Jim, The limbs are not the same as the Formula Gold. I was thinking the same thing when I first got them.

The formula Gold was a Gainesville bow and your limbs are marked Grayling. A real odd set you have there. Very interesting to say the least.

I have no idea what this riser is but it is similar to a C Mag riser. First attempt at adding pictures.

Mike, I believe that riser is the same as the one I have except in a longer length. Can you measure the width of the circular castings and the distance between the limb bolt hole and the center of the casting?

Thanks, Nick

I am not sure what measurments you want but:
Over all length of "pocket" 3 1/4"

Width 1 1/2" (hole centered)

Circular casting 1/2" - Limb bolt hole 2 1/2" from bottom

Mike, THANKS. Yep, that is the same riser I have.

My limbs are 1 5/8" Wide, 2 1/2" from the center of the limb bolt to the center of the casting and the 3 1/4" from the center of the limb bolt to the edge of the limb butt.

Looks like the Bear Compound riser. It looked a lot like the Bear Mag.

Could those limbs be off a Formula Bronze?  The Bronze has a different fitting compared to the Gold.

Nick I think your looking for a 79 Temujtin II or a Polar LTD compound riser it would be from a C mag riser length but opened at the end, with plastic round half blocks.  The other hunting lenght risers are of the B lenght and then later also the A lenght. Does the signature look to be hand rightin under the finish. I think you have something Fred was working on before the move.I think they  became the Formula silver limbs in 81 with out the long cut out slot that was on the Mag risers.I may have a set of the plastice blocks from one of the early risers.

Larry, Thanks for the reply. I was thinking those risers were constructed totally opposite of what I would need but I didn't realize they had a plastic block that fit into the riser to make the half round piece. I have never had one of those bows apart though. I will have to look into them closer.

Can you post or email me a picture of the plastic blocks? [email protected]

Also, the signature is on top of the finish.

Thanks Again, Nick

Nick I think you have a collectable there. I think if you also discount the plastic block that your limbs would fit a Bear take down hunter or the even older Chalange metal riser. I have used Chalanger limbs on the older bolt on hunter risers by removeing the plastic block plate that is like double sided taped to the limbs. They do make about a 62" bow instead of the 60" AMO.

Larry, Thanks Again. Also, these limbs are about 1/2-3/4" longer than a Bear TD #2 limb.

They will not. The limb attachment is different.

Good to see you posting Nick.  It's been a long time.  As usual for you, nice bow here, and very interesting.  I am unable to help but did want to say "hello"

Hi Colin!
Yeah, It's been awhile. Life has taken me down a few different paths in the past few years (ALL FOR THE BETTER!), but I still drop in on occasion.

Thanks for the comment on the limbs. They are something I picked up a few years ago and have never been able to find a riser they fit.
