Title: Kodiak Special
Post by: mullet on January 15, 2012, 12:27:00 PM
I picked up a nice one this morning at the Flea Market. But I don't know squat about KS.It is 64", 47#@28, SR# WD137 and looks to have an I-Beam.I'm guessing somewhere around 63-64? It came with the old retro camo sleeves, a Bear fishing reel, Bear string wax, broadhead file, field points and numerous strings.and I forgot and left the two fish arrows. It also has white and black overlays and a flat copper coin.

Can anybody enlighten me? I have pictures but will need someone to post them for me, I can't seem to get them up on this site.

Sounds like a 1959, but send your pics to oldskool and you will get your answer.

Oh...you forgot to tell us how good a deal it was.   :saywhat:

I just looked at Wade's list of serial numbers for 1959 Kodiak Specials and the "WD' prefix matches the 64" KS.

The cresent shape of the inlay indicates that it is a 1960.

Another explanation of the differences is the 1959's have wood on the belly side of the sight window and the 1960's have glass on the belly side.

Here is what Nick is talking about the difference between the 59 and 60 glass and wood on the belly side. The 59 Kodiak Special is on the left and the 60 Kodiak Special is in the center. The 60 Kodiak Special Deluxe is on the right and it resembles the 59 with the wood overlay.

Does anyone know where I can get a pre-cut piece of leather for the grip? And I forgot who made the feather rest and strings that look so good.

That is the nicest KS Deluxe I have ever seen. Drop Dead Gorgeous....WOW.   Philip, Yours is not bad either. If it shoots better then it looks, you must be a very competent archer!!

Another is the 1960 white and black lams on the front blended together, "feathered".
The 1959 was a solid line switch from the black to the white.
