Having killed a number of pheasants with the bow, I will tell you that nothing puts them down like a broadhead.

Many will worry about injuring dogs and I guess that's a possibility if you are hunting with them.
That's the owner/handler's call.

In my experience, using a small two blade broadhead, most shots were pass through and no threat to the dogs we hunted with.

I used a barta blunt to kill a pheasant and it did quite a number on him.-Scott

I hunt with other guy's dogs...I use a field point with a zwickey scorpio behind it.  HAve not lost any birds.  In the past while experimenting on heads. I have had judos and ace hex blunts bounce off birds.  Broadheads would be great, but shooting them into the air at flying birds and having the possiblity of a dog getting hurt with it on the retreive are not worth it to me.

Check out the new TBM, a pretty cool idea in there about heads for pheasant. I hunt with my Brit, so I would be hesitant to use BHs. I am thinking of trying some magnus blunts, judos, and maybe even some of those new SGH from g5.
