Title: Will a Suregrip damage finish on older bows bows???
Post by: david janssen on October 22, 2011, 02:28:00 PM
Just wondering if a rubber suregrip will damage the finish on older bows?
I want to put one on my Kodiak just not sure if it a good choice or not.

Thanks for the help,

David

I have used mtn bike inner tube with no ill effects so that sure grip should work fine.

If left on while out in the sun or very bright light areas it will cause the covered area to not be damaged by UV rays and it will not bleach out like the exposed parts of the bow. Then it will be darker when the grip is removed, but it should not hurt the finish. That being said I sure like the rubber grip.

I kind of do not like the rubber grips on older bows one reason KS mentioned discoloring the wood. But the real reason I do not like them on older bows is the same reason I do not like rubber tip protecters on older bows.If any moisture at all gets under the rubber grip and or tip protecter it can cause problems.Moisture under the rubber will not dry up quick like the old original leather grips did.In a good old late season Washington rain storm you will get some water under the edges of even the best rubber grips. That moisture under the rubber will do some damage to the original finish real fast. The original finish on most older bows is fairly thin bd
