With the sad news of Dick Lattimer's passing,
I have been thinking of the Fred Bear Sports Club in which he founded for Bear Archery.
Thought it would be nice to hear a story or see other members come forward with their FBSC membership # in his honor.
My # is 85001.....One of the last members I would think.
Pics are a plus!
Bravo Dick Lattimer :clapper: ..........Philip

I was just a kid and never joined, but how coincidental that I just bought two Club patches off the auction 5 min ago. I don't know if they are real or not, but for no more than I gave for them they'll look great regardless. I would like to see all the momentos too....

Philip, Dick Lattimer has really helped keeping 'Papa Bear's' legacy alive. Charter member FBSC #5869 July 26, 1973

Never did join the FBSC but do have a nice signed copy of his book, "Hunt with Fred Bear". The passing of time can be very sad.

Yes,sad to hear about Dick Lattimer. He did so much to help promote the sport of archery and bowhunting. Here is a photo I had saved from part of my display I had set up at an outdoor show last February in northern Michigan. Some FBSC memorabilia. The patch at the bottom of the picture is one of only about 14 ever made and is one of the original FBSC jacket patches. The photo of the original 11 members including Fred shows them with this patch on their jackets.Such history of the good ol' days.

I was a Charter Member of the FBSC. Haven't seen my membership pack for years but know it is safely put away somewhere here. I never throw anything away. At least not on purpose.
-
If anyone is/was a charter member, I know you are Wade.
I was anticipating your FBSC items to be honest.
I figured you to show us alot more than a certificate like me.
I hope you find your member packet and other items.
Oh, and the 68' "non trim stripe" proto T/D you pictured is new to my eyes! A real treat, thanks for that. The other you pictured I have seen in pics.
I knew of the "shotgun lever" proto Fred hunted Africa with and have pics holding it at Bear archery. That was a special day for me.
Thanks for sharing those special bows...Philip

Very cool! Thanks for sharing!!

John,
Any chance you could take a good photo of the photo of the 11 original members? I may have a friend who's in it.

These 18 Fred Bear Sports Club Adhesive Back Awards are from the Eccleston estate. Shown with a standard Fred Bear Sports Club patch for size comparison.
Hard to see in this image, but most have the words "Fred Bear Sports Club" on them on fine print.

Wade, it's been awhile. Always good to see you post pictures of your collection.

I ran across my cert and patch while moving this past Dec. Forgot I had the cert still. Both are still in a box of archery books I have yet to find a new place for. Besides the cert and patch I found the warranty card for my 1972 SK. and receipt.
-
I was a member a loooong time ago, but don't know my # or what happened to my membership paper.
I did buy a Bear Grizzly, I believe a 1970 model, a few years ago that has a Bear Sportsmans Club sticker on the upper limb.
I was able to take a Grouse with that bow this year. ;) I hunted with it till I pulled my back last archery season. I expect to hunt with it again.
-
I joined Oct. 7, 1988 certificate signed by Mr. Dick Lattimer, membership # don't remember where the packet went to but if I figure out how to post a pic will post the certificate.

Myself & a good friend of mine spent $1500.00 attempting to obtain copyright for Fred Bear Sports Club 2 years ago which was about a 6 month ordeal and ended up being informed with just a few days left for time table to fight it by apposing party and then we would have staked claim to FBSC and opposing party stepped up to the plate and then our legal firm said it would proably be about $35,000.00 for next round of legal action with very good to excellent chance we would lose !!! Dam shame because I am sure it will not be resurrected again by the party wanting to fight and has been dormant for quite a few years !!

Thats a real shame when someone has something like that.... a legacy and wont use it and deny anyone else the ability to dos so......
