Title: Bear Static Kodiak string length?
Post by: SlowBowke on August 31, 2011, 10:06:00 AM
Purchasing a 52 Kodiak static tip recurve.

Does the 4 inch shorter than bow length still apply for the static tip bows?

Bow is 64 inch.

Also need info on brace height to start at please.

God Bless

I just found an original Bear string from a K-4 I had saved and stretched it out to measure it.From end to end including the loops, the string measured 59 5/8".This was with no twists in the string at all.It was an orignal continuous loop Bear bowstring taken from a 64" K-4 static tip Kodiak. Not sure what the brace height would be.Hope this helps a little.

SPEAKING OF continuous loop....do these statics have a preference of those to Flemish twist? Seems most my bows prefer, or at least I prefer on them, the flemish twist just totally (obviously) ignorant of how the static tips will effect it all....if indeed it does.

Sorry for multiple ?s but you guys are the the most experienced with em.

God Bless

Slowbowke- I'm not sure if they prefer the continuous loop over flemish twist. It's what they came with originally.Personally I have found the flemish twist to be quieter,or I should say easier to make quiet, than the continuous loop strings.I've tried using the original continuous loop strings on some of my later 1950's and 1960's Kodiaks and found them to be a bit noisier.I switched to flemish twist and solved the problem.A couple of feet per second in speed really isn't anything that should make that much of a difference since we are shooting 50-60 year old bows anyhow.
I believe with a little time and effort, some string silencers and the proper brace height,a continuos loop string can be quieted enough for hunting.I guess it comes down to being a personal preference.A nicely made flemish twist string looks and works fantastic on these old Bear bows in my opinion.Good luck in your quest and enjoy shooting the old Bear.
