Title: trying a Howatt on for size

After all the old Bears and new Widows I own, a Super Diablo has caught my interest.  After watching for a few months and reading what I could, I found a long box on my door step yesterday.  I deliberately bought it a little lighter than I prefer after reading that most were heavier than stated.  It's gonna need a little facelift, but that's how I like 'em!

It looks like at some point it's gotten a little burn or hot spot there above the rest.  And I think I'm going to put inserts in those holes instead of trying to fill them right on that line.  I can't get the photo to downsize, but it's 44#.  

And I couldn't believe it, but someone has actually put a peep sight on it.  The peep itself was still in the string.

A Super Diablo is one of the prettiest recurves ever made, IMO.  Saw a nice one sell at the TBW shoot in Packwood, WA last weekend. Over the years, I've let guys talk me out of several, and sure wish I'd kept one now!!! Good for you.

I asked the guy I bought it from about it's history and if he had any photos of it from "back in the day".  He told me he had shot it alot, but nothing further.  Get this though, his grandfather gave it to him in 1981.  I mean he's a heck of a nice guy, but there's not enough money in the world to buy my stuff that was handed down to me!

I agree on the fact, if my grandfather gave it to me it would be not be for sale. Nice find and a beautiful bow. I have a #55 Hunter and I love the way it shoots. Fast and smooth. Congrats on the great buy you'll be very pleased.

Be careful Carlos, that one is gonna spoil you!  Super D's are at the top of the class in my book - just wait until you see how that rosewood comes to life.

I love the super diablos, one of the prettiest hunting bows ever made.  I have one from the 70's, and one from the late 90's.  I need the one with the zebrawood riser to "complete" my trifecta.

I have a couple of bows with holes similar to yours.  Rather than try to match a wood plug, I've installed appropriately sized roundheaded brass screws.  I like the way they look.

The SD is a great bow, I would like to add a 40#er to my Howatt collection someday.

They are great looking and shooting bows,I have a pair myself both 45# with Brazilian Rosewood,a joy for the eyes.

If I collected any make it would be Howatts they hit like a hammer and mine is very particular about my form and release so it actually makes me attentive to what I'm doing.It will show any glitches you didn't know you had,good score.

Well it's coming along.  I started out just going to take out all the scratches on the limbs, but I think I'll go on down to revive that rosewood.

That is a sweet bow. I have a Coronado I refinished, it dig it.
That burn mark is crazy, looks like friction burn!
Damn, previous owner wasn't kidding when he said he shot it a lot. Wonder what his arrows looked like?
