Title: Bear Super Kodiak Year
Post by: JJB on July 02, 2011, 03:31:00 PM
I have a Bear Super Kodiak that was originally my Grandfathers.  It's been on the wall for many years but I decided to take it down and shoot it today, it shot great.

I think it was made in 1969, I'm hoping someone can confirm it or let me know the correct year if I'm not correct.  It appears to have a brass coin and it's serial number is 9Z2182.  Here are some pictures.  Thanks in advance for the help.

A little history on this bow...Jay's grandfather was my father-in-law who really took to archery after I shot my first deer with my Bear Grizzly in 1968.  He went right out and bought a Kodiak Magnum which he used for a time.  I remember one time when he shot every arrow in his Bear quiver at a mule deer near Grand Junction, Colorado.  The deer was obviously in the safest place by not moving!  He had a good laugh at that and we "rubbed" it in!  He decided that maybe a longer bow was in order, so he purchased this beautiful bow from Centaur Archery in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  I'm still not sure how Jay ended up with the bow...just kidding Jay!!

Kind of funny, Dad and I were talking about this bow the other night and neither one of us can remember how it ended up in my hands.

Here's a picture of the riser laminations.  I see on another thread that this sometimes happens on these bows.  This one sounds just like the others, it's only in one place and doesn't open up any more.  I'll try to get some loctite in there.

Jay if that were my GF's bow ? first thing would be I'd plan to take it out hunting at least once.Second thing first actualy ? I'd fix that delamination first before I even thought about stringing it.The only reason I stress fixing those delams in the riser is because they will get worse and can lead to big problemos. But man oh man that is a dandy right there and one of my all time favorite shooters you gotta love em huh ? bd
