Title: Ben Pearson Hunter
Post by: JJB on April 10, 2011, 08:36:00 PM
We went to the Pope and Young clubs 50th anniversary yesterday and while we were in Rochester we stopped at the Footed Shaft, my first time there, a very cool place.  I purchased a Ben Pearson Hunter 7090 and am interested in what year it was made.  It's serial number is AE-1764.  I'm thinking about 1968, if anyone knows for sure please let me know.

I think they went to four digit #'s in the 70's?

At one time I had a zebrawood Hunter with green glass I had dated to 1965.  My guess is your bow is from that era.

Thanks for the link, there is no arrow on the opposite side.  It must be from 1969 then.

From some informal research I did on the archery archives website (which is sadly gone now), the 709 Hunter was from 1965 to 1967, and the 7090 Hunter was 1968 and 1969 only.

Also, the catalogs indicated that the 709 Hunter had green glass in 66 and brown glass in 65 and 67 - this would appear to contradict Blackhawk's age assessment of his bow, but I imagine that there was quite a bit of variability at the factory, so I would think serial number would be a safer way to date one of those bows.

I went down cellar and checked Blackhawk's old #709 Hunter (Serial 09-264_ _ ) and also have this from the old "disappeared" Ben Pearson website.

Quote

Recurve

30 to 65 lb.

Green glass

Semi-pistol grip with thumb rest Zebrawood handle

Not sure what year the #7090 came out that replaced it.

Thanks guys for the information.  Having one with green glass and zebrawood would be really great.
