I bought a Herters Perfection Sambar 56 Inch Jr. Recurve 26# @ 28". My question is about the string length and brace hieght. On the limb sticker it says to uses a 49 1/2" string. I always thought that a recurve bow string was 4" shorter than the bow. I made a string for it and made it 49 1/4" to leave some room for stretch, but it has a 9 1/4" brace hieght. This just seems very high to me. Does anyone else have one of these that could help me out? Any information would be great.

The Herters bows do have more curve, so the string length is a little shorter. And shorter bows do tend to have a larger brace height. Still, 9" or more sounds a little much. Try shooting it and see how it works. I'm guessing 8" or 8.5" brace would be a little better.

The 4 inch shorter than bow length does not apply to vintage Herters bows. The string length should be what the decal says. Herters is one of the few that the 4 inch rule does not apply.

I find if you measure about any Herters bow it is 2 inches different in length than what is stated on the bow. I like them at 7.5 brace. Jim

Herters measured their bow length differently and measured brace height to the front of the shelf, not the deepest point of the grip. Go with the string length marked, brace should be 8" + or - from the deepest point of grip.
