I will have new scales available for those who have the original ones. They are pretty neat if I do say so myself. The supply is a bit limited right now but that should be fixed in a week.

Well this weekend I received a custom Spine-O Meter from Kevin as a Christmas gift. It has a few "Extra" options that I asked for. From the first day he told us he was going to design/make a spine tester, I knew that it would be Top Notch. Mine is perfect. Kevin's technical background really comes to the front with this thought out tester. We just got off the phone, dicussing the idea of building bows. I can't wait! Do you still make the spine-o-meter mark 11 and if you do how much are they selling for ? Would i be able to get plans,diagrams and measurements to make my own if you don't sell and make them anymore? Thanks

Besides it being an 18 year old thread his scale is way off. With deflection being on the right and pounds being on the left .520 should be 50#, not 61# like it shows in the picture.

Kelly, Gerlock's spine tester has
both AMO and ASTM scales ---- it is correct and accurate. The left side of the scale is the old AMO (showing bow poundage); the black section of the pointer is covering the 59 pounds mark. The middle section of the scale shows various Easton aluminium arrow shafts, and
ASTM aluminium/carbon arrow deflections are on the right-most side of the scale.
The pointer's red tip shows an approximate .534" deflection; the black section of the pointer covering the Easton aluminium arrow shafts area likely reads
2016 (a .531 deflection); this translated to AMO is 59 pounds.
To create his two different deflection scales, Gerlock uses the well-known .825 conversion factor, which is also used in both Stu Miller's and 3 River's Dynamic Spine calculator programs.
Sadly, it appears the OakCreek http link is no longer active and it is a loss, for Gerlock's articles brought us out of the chronic AMO/ASTM spine measuring confusion.

Whether you can still order from them is questionable, but I can click on all the buttons on the web site and see the deflection charts, explanation of formulas...etc.
York, deflection is deflection regardless of which shaft material you use. It's a constant. Even when Easton came up with their spine/pounds calculations they used an AMO scale which had deflection and corresponding pounds based upon 26" centers. The only change to the spine testor Easton used(Scheib spine testor) was to extend the posts to 28". Yes that changes the amount of defection but they used the pounds part from the AMO scale, which was always calculated based upon 26" centers and a 2# weight, not the 28" centers Easton used. Also they later found out that their weight was only 1.84#, which would measure less deflection. So instead of changing their weight to 2#(the AMO standard) and recalibrating the scale to the 28" centers they used, they just declared their way of spining aluminum/carbons as gospel!
