Title: Pearson Cougar what year? (pics added)
Post by: Ranger58 on November 15, 2010, 08:22:00 AM
I'm trying to identify the year of production on my grandfather's bow that I've had for some time now.  It has a Cat# 964 with a serial number of K-761.  It has green glass on the belly and brown glass on the back.  I know it's either 1958, 1959, or 1960; but, I can't narrow it down.
I'm contemplating the restoration of this piece, as I think it still has some mojo yet to give.  There are no "stress" cracks on the back; but, the belly is another bowl of issues!  No signs of any horizontal cracks only the vertical ones of which, I don't think are down into the wood. There is a twist on the upper limb that will have to be addressed as well.  Wish me luck.
Oh by the way, I just got my grandfathers Bear back quiver, his six of his hunting arrows tipped with Hilbre's and Bear heads.  And three practice arrows in another belt quiver that has an Indian embossed on it.  All of the arrows appear to be of his design (cresting and fletching)!  This is just way too cool!
Thanks in advance for any info you can steer my way.

1959 #964 cougar had tan glass and 1960 #964 had cream colored glass. Don't know about 1958. Should have dual arrow shelfs and a leather wrapped grip and 64 inches long. Maybe 1958

Thanks!  It is a dual shelf, with a leather wrap and yes it is indeed a 64.  Now to get it back on it's feet!  Thanks Wadde!

If it's a '58, it will be doubly special.  Not only was it my grandfather's hunting bow; but, he would have gotten it the same year I was brought into this world.  Now to see if BowDoc wants another project  ;)
I'll try and post some pics of the condition of the bow and then if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Finally got around to loading some pics.  Does this help anyone narrow it down to the actual year that it may have been produced?

As You can see it has a little twist to the upper limb.

And there are some "stress" cracks on the belly.
