Title: spine tester help
Post by: Bobby Urban on September 05, 2010, 05:36:00 PM
from these pics can you tell me if this is all here?  I think I am missing some parts but not sure what or how it works exactly.  I really think I am going to need this bugger because I have recently aquired the makings for over 1500 Cedar arrows and a working spine tester will be needed if no one wants to buy in bulk(see arrow making supplies thread)
Thanks - Bob Urban

It appears to be an old Scheib "EXACT-O-MATIC"
Was suppose to be the Cadillac of spine testers in its day. Most of them were mounted to a plank. It looks like you may be missing a part or two. There is a two prong arm that the weight hangs on.

should it connect to the threaded piece on top?  I probably have it in one of the boxes.  Anyone have a pic of one that is fully operational?

That is where it would go.

I'm not familiar with that one, but all the other testers I've seen or used would have the pin you show resting on the shaft underneath the shaft, so the weight and resulting deflection can raise the needle.  Does that part reverse somehow?  Or is the zero on the chart at the top?  Maybe that model works in reverse.

You are missing some pieces one of which attaches to the threaded top piece. Then the weight attaches to the piece that is missing.

This spine tester has the needle resting on top of the shaft.
