Title: pick a vintage Bear for upcoming hunt
Post by: wasapt on August 07, 2010, 11:08:00 PM
I have several vintage bows by Bear and can't decide which to use for some upcoming hunts- Brown bear, moose, elk, Blacktail and Bison. How would you decide, performance - arrow speed, or Nostalgia? Here are the various FPS results and the bow weights and lengths, all shooting a 505 grain arrow.
Choice 1=1970 B riser Take Down, 58lb x 64" shooting   181 FPS;
Choice 2=1959 Kodiak 57lb x 64" shooting                        181 FPS; Choice 3=1970 A riser Take down, 57lb x 60" shooting   183 FPS;
Choice 4= 1963 Kodiak Dogleg 55lb x 60" shooting         185 FPS;
Choice 5= 1970 Super Kodiak 55lb x 64" shooting            185 FPS;
Choice 6= 1970 Super Kodiak 60lb x 60" shooting          188 FPS;  (http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae220/bolson1/DSC00682.jpg)

Tuf choice, they are all capable bows. I would lean towards the 60# super k for the bigger stuff.

The one you shoot the best and have the most confidence in. I like #3.

Good call yellow bow.

Thje one you like the best might not be the best in fairness to the game you are hunting.

Personally I never thought the Super K's were all that great shooters.  Almost the same goes for the Takedowns.

In my opinion, numbers 2 & 3 are the best shooters with the '59 being the best.

While nostalgia should not be a factor, mine would be the Dogleg.

Now that is just me.  As yellow bow stated, ya gotts pick the one you shoot the best and have the most confidence in.  It's you hunting...not any of us.

Of course I can also agree with hottie c...pick the one you like and send me the rest.  :thumbsup:

You mention 6 bow options and 5 types of game....is this a question of which bow will stay home?

The original A handle would be my choice; the B handle would be first if it didn't have the site window.  Wow, I wish I had your problem!  Nice bows!
