Are there any bowyers out there that still make bows similar in style and appearance to, say the classic Wing Presentation or Bear Tamerlane target bows of late 1960's?
-
None that I know of, sorry!
That said, there are many of these old target bows around and come for sale quite often. Just put a WTB(Wanted to Buy) ad in the classifieds here and I bet you find several to choose from.

Got '67 Tamerlane, 38#, 69", original and very nice that keeps looking for a new home.

I have about got Mike Fedora talked into making his 66" One Piece 'Tournament' target recurve again. He quit making them years ago and I've been bugging him to make them again. I have a 66" 560 TD 'Tournament' 36#@28" with Brazilian Rosewood riser and white glass Bamboo limbs that spits flames and I bet the one-piece bow of his would too! They are along the lines of the old Bear Tamerlane and Temujin but with the Fedora thumbrest and HP(high-performance)limb bend. This is all I know for now.......IJ

With so many old classic target bows available relatively cheap why would you want a new one?

1. I never see them advertised in the Classified section of Tradgang. Is there somewhere else to look?
2. They're over a half-century old now; as a Plastics Engineer, I know that polymeric adhesives and fiberglass and finishes have improved significantly since then. (Plus they embrittle with heat and time over the decades.)

There's always a few on e-bay. As Kelly says, place a WTB ad on the classifieds and I'll bet you see some action.

Yes he is Rich, one of the last if not the last! He's been building bows for over 50 years and was around during the heyday of field and tournament archery. He knows how to build a pure target bow and his knowledge is endless when it comes to target archery. Mike Fedora Sr. was an Olympic archery instructor and his bows have won many tournaments and have taken many trophies. He can build you whatever you want and desire in a target bow. I consider him and his bows 'Classic'.....IJ

LL Bean has takedown target recurves up to 29# for $139 in their latest hunting catalog, in two lengths.

So what are Olympic shooters using? No wheelie bows allowed there.

ILF stuff, Hoyt, Samick, Win&Win, among others.

Are the new target bows superior to the older long recurves like the Tamerlane? They all seem to be metal risers and not as long as the old bows. I would guess they have improved on the design with things like carbon limbs, etc
Thanks

I'm sure that technological advances have made som improvement on tournament bows as compared to those of the '60's.
I would also think that more improvement has been in the development of the arrows more than the bows.
But it still comes down to "the man behind the bow"

I guess all the technology in the world still can't make the shot for you.
