Has anyone heard of the Wellman Archery Company out of Wadsworth, OH? Roughly what years they were in operation etc?

My cheat sheet says late 50's so a pretty short run,a lot of the other now defunct companies are listed as late 50's early 60's I'm sure one of the real experts will be along soon who knows a lot more, sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

This company was close to where we now live. I appreciate any information. Just curious about it. I have found a reference on a collector's site, but not much.

i have a wellman hurricane whirlwind recurve and have had the same problem with finding stuff out i know they make a heck of a bow I LOVE MINE glad you got one if you want to sell let me know if not shoot the heck out of it and good luck

I don't have one....yet...still looking. From what I gather Mr. Wellman ran a relatively small shop in the Wadsworth area, but did make bows for at least a couple of decades. You are the second person I've "met" who owns one. You and the other person speak very highly of them.

i just googled one more time and came up with an obituary for a tom wellman from wadsworth that enjoyed archery not sure if this is who we are looking for and thats all it said but check it out its somthing

I did run in to a gentlemen on an other forum that knows the family. The bowyer did pass away. As I recall he stopped making bows in the late 1980's or early 1990's.

Hi everyone!! I'm the daughter of Tom Wellman of Wellman Archery. If there is any info that I can help you with, please let me know. I'll be glad to tell you what I can. And, if anyone has one of his bows, please let me know. I still have the two that he made for me and the rest of my family have several more, including the child starter bows that he made. It's really something to know that some of his bows are still out there.

Welcome to tradgang! Thank you for posting and expressing your willingness to share some history or us!
A couple of questions? What years was Wellman Archery in production? Do you know roughly how many bows your father made? I have seen two for sale on auction sites in the past few years but they do seem pretty rare. I really like the looks I the ones I had seen.
