ok, i have seen that a lot of you have a mixed opinion about Tred Barta. But what do you think about his equipment on 3Rivers? I have looked at his bow and from what he says it seems a hard working bow what you will not feel to bad about bashing about in the bush. Have any of you guyes got one , tryed one and your opinion of it.
Manny Thanks James

If you do a search, there are several threads on the bow already and there may be one in the review forum.

ow ok , Thanks

If you're looking for a no frills bow, check out the Bear Montana. I think it's cheaper than the Barta bow, because they aren't paying a royalty to Tred. They are excellent bows, too, BTW.

Trad Man, all I have to say is look around before you buy that bow. It may be nice, but $400 bucks for a bow off the rack seems alittle pricy to me. There are alot of costomes out there that will run in the $400 range. Northern Mist and Chek- Mate are two that I can think of. What gets me is that when this bow came out Barta was all about making a bow that was a "working mans" bow for under $400, now it sells for around $420????????? From what I have read Martin makes this bow, I have soot some Martins and liked them.
I would feel bad about bashing a $400 bow around in the woods.
Hope this helped.

I own the sixth one they ever sold. I drag it in the woods, shoot 3D and stumps. It is my working bow. as for carrying a $400 bow in the woods the rifles I used to hunt with cost twice that or more and were not nearly as durable. Yes it now has a few character lines and has not yet gottn bloddd in but I wouldn't trade it for any of the bows I have seen in that price range. It shoots smoth and fast. The guys I shoot 3D with have all handled and shot it and think it is a great bow. It isn't pretty.....kind of like the Model A. It is however a very sturdy, shootable bow that I am proud to carry afeild. JMHO

But you could get them in any color as long as it was black :bigsmyl: I like the Barta bunny busters.

i own one its a good bow, quality is above normal, not a frilly bow just plain jane. the grip would be the only thing i might change on it, i have come to like some of the super shrew type grips out there. but overaul a quality bow.

Doesnt BEAR sell a "Byron Ferguson Signature" LongBow? I would like to at least TRY that one once. How they compare, I havent the Slightest Idea.
I guess am just Biased for Ferguson, just a Tad.
:archer: :goldtooth:

I've shot several of the Ferguson bows made by Bear. My opinion is that it is an over priced Montanta. Nothing against Byron, he is a great guy and I have nothing but respect for him, but the bow does him no justice. The Barta bow on the other hand is a good solid shooter, unlike Tred. dino

Before I'd buy the Trad Barta bow, I'd contact Ron at Fox Archery. Barta used their equipment before he switched to 3 Rivers. The Arctic Fox TD longbow is hard to beat and fairly priced.

Well Thanks for your opinions, I think i will keep looking. There is nothing striking me at the moment, and i dont think i will splash the cash till i see some thing worth spending time and effort with.
I have allways liked the Tomahawk bows, but thouhgt they might be a little out of my price range at the moment, but i can allways save up a bit more if they are woth it.

I have a Bear Ferguson Patriot and really like it, like all bows I guess it comes down to personal taste. I wouldn't pay $400+ for one either though...I got a deal on mine.
I wholeheartedly agree that is a lot to pay for any factory bow, your getting well into custom range for that money.

I didn't know he was making bows
-
byrons not makin bows,
i think hes kinda like barta,
he endorses the bow just like barts endorses the barta bow,
the patriots made by bear.
-
Byron used to make bows. The Bear bows are built to his design specs more or less. He discusses bow building in Become the Arrow.
-
so did he make the patriot?
-
He used to make a model himself called the Patriot. The Bear version bears his name and is supposed to be the same bow more or less.
I believe someone posted the Barta bow is a revived Martin Bushmaster. If that's true they should be a fine bow, although again I think the price tag is pretty high.
