Title: 1964 Bear Kodiak Sight Window
Post by: michigan bill on January 28, 2010, 02:39:00 PM
Many of you guys will know the answer.
Is the 1964 Bear Kodiak sight window cut "to center?"
Or is it cut a little "out" from center?
Much appreciated!

Bill

Bill,
I'd definetely suggest waiting for a more definitive answer from those guys more experienced than me in Bear Archery bow manufacturing history -
but, the 2 I have both seem to be cut a little out from center.

The two I've seen were both different.  One was definitely cut a little out of center, the other maybe to, but as I was just ogling it I didn't measure  ;)

Thank you, gents.
Bjorn informed me the '64 was cut to center.
I won't actually get my "new" bow until tomorrow's mail arrives. I was just kind of thinking ahead - wondering if I will need to buy a gross or so of new arrows.

Mine appears to be center cut but the window has a slight radius to it so I'm not sure how to measure it.

Looking at my '64,  it is cut to center.

there is going to be how ever many folks respond with 1964 Kodiaks will be how many different answers you'll get.
Tip of the day is all 1964 Kodiaks were finished by hand by 12 or so different workers giving us 12 different window cuts if you will.12 or so workers cut sight windows out on bandsaws and 12 or so different workers did the finish sanding on the risers. There was a plus or minus on the thickness of the risers.I've seen many many 1964 Kodiaks and you have to really kind of check out everyone you can until you find the one that is nearest to center for you or remove some stock out of the sight window of one bd

Thank you, Don.
I received the bow in the mail and it is center cut or dang close.  It shoots just great!
I was a senior in high school in the spring of 1964 and I let a couple buddies talk me out of buying the 45# Kodiak then and, instead, I bought a 36# Ben Pearson Golden Conqueror.  At my 25" draw, it was way too light for me.
So 46 years later - within a few weeks! - I finally got "my" 45# Kodiak.
Better late than never!
