Title: Bear Target recurve find.......
Post by: highpoint forge on October 20, 2009, 11:18:00 PM
I was told by a buddy that he had some old recurves laying around and he and I frequently hit his private club/lake to fish and hunt hogs or deer, usually midweek for a day or so as it's really close to Dallas. So he brings out this old Bear 64" bow for me last time. Can someone ID it for me and estimate its value? I need to string it and clean it up of course.....

Well actually, he brought out a Ben Pearson bow with a Bear brush rest on it.  Any photos of the inside upper limb?  Or the catalog number on the side of the riser?  It looks like a Palomino, but may be another model.

Hey George I could not find a single mark on it. I will re-inspect.

Maybe it was refinished at one time....it's definitely a Ben Pearson, and I would almost bet it's the Palomino model.  Let us know if you can see any marks at all.  They are sweet shooters, by the way...not a bad find at all.

Here's a 1962 Palomino.

Some of the old bear target bows had sights built in the riser.

Its a Palomino, 99% for sure. The white wood in the riser is holly and if its yellowed its the finish, not the wood itself. The other wood is walnut.
The Palomino was Pearson bowyer Ben Mullikin's favorite Pearson bow.

I'm pretty sure George is dead on, I know I've never seen a Bear like that.

Definately NOT a Bear. If you couldn't find any markings on it, why did you say it was a Bear?

No markings at all. Bear brush rest. Resembles a target model they made, I'm told. There is NO writing on this bow.

It has the Bear brush rest on it.  Lots of "Bear" bows I've seen advertised elsewhere have just had a rest or some other Bear product on them.

Nice Palomino!  :)

It's for sure a Pearson. It may be a Golden Sovereign. It resembles my 61 Golden Conqueror a bit more than my 62 Pearson Palomino. CKruse

I'm with Cameron on this one.

I was going to sugest a Golden Sovereign until I got to the bottom ans saw that Cameon already had.
