Title: My own Little Delta Bow... Success... Pic
Post by: luv2bowhunt on December 08, 2007, 01:15:00 PM
Well it all started when I had the opportunity to hunt with the Little Delta Bow this fall. I was able to take 2 deer with it and absolutely fell in love with the bow!

When the time came to ship the bow to the next lucky individual I decided to see if I could find a similar bow. I posted a want ad on the classified here and was contacted by "bjorn" in California. He had a 1957 Kodiak Special that looks like the LDB... in MINT shape... a few bills later and the bow was at my doorstep.

Man, what a beautiful specimen! Thank you bjorn!! The bow is a little lighter than the LDB, this one pulls 47 @ 28" and is 66". Took her out to shoot and she shot just like I was holding the LDB again! She shoots like a dream.

Anyhow, out to the woods for some late season hunting. It all came together last night... one of the fastest hunts I have ever had!

I got my tree stand set up a little before 4:00 PM. I had just finished up a candy bar and a pop while I was cooling down. I put on my jacket and hat and was about to put my shooting glove on... I heard a slight rustling, there were 3 does within thirty yards of my stand and coming straight for me! So, here I am, only about 10 feet up in a pine tree, my bow is hanging from a hook off to my left, no arrow on the string yet either!

The deer continued to browse their way straight at me. I was able to sneak an arrow out of my quiver, take the bow off of the hook, knock the arrow, and ready myself for a shot... all while the deer closed to within 10 yards!

The deer continued to browse around never giving me the shot I was looking for. After about 5 minutes of browsing the largest doe began to move off straight away from me. Finally at 25 yards she turned giving me a perfect quartering away shot. The arrow reached my anchor point without me even thinking about it... all I could see was a spot on her chest. I don't even remember letting go of the string... all I remember is the arrow striking the exact spot I was looking at and burying up to the fletching!! All the deer took off. I watched the doe run through the weeds and brush for about 100 yards and then topple over... the first deer that I have actually seen fall while bowhunting!!! Now the excitement finally hit! It all happened so fast I did not really even realize what had happened until it was all over!

The shot was absolutely beautiful, the deer was quartering away about 45 degrees, the arrow entered the deer just above mid body and just in front of mid body from left to right. The arrow exited in the off shoulder. Post mortem revealed that the arrow took out both lungs. I found the fletched half of the shaft about half way between the shot and the deer... never did find the business end, I was really hoping to find it because that is the same broadhead that I took one of the deer with the LDB and wanted to keep it going.

Anyway, here is a pic of the doe... what a great year!!

I'm always amazed at the sheer size of northern deer. A buck has to be 7 years old here to get that big!!!!!!!!!!! I just sold a bow just like that one to a Tradganger...they are wonderful shooters.

I hope he has as great a luck with his as you did with yours.

Nice doe and good shooting.

The 1957 Kodiak Special is truly a great shooting bow.  Don't know why, but it's 50 years old and shoots right there with the new stuff.

That doe makes you look like a midget!

Kevin that did not take you long and the smile on your face is even better than with the original LDB! I am really happy for your success with both bows; but especially with your own LDB!
Congrats,
Bjorn
