Title: Shakespeare Wambaw
Post by: Bowferd on September 20, 2009, 10:26:00 PM
Just acquired this for the purpose of a bowfishing rig because of the price, but opened it up and decided, too nice to relegate as my fishing bow.
Anyone know when this model was manufactured? (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z314/Bowferd/019-1.jpg) (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z314/Bowferd/020-1.jpg)

Bowferd- Although I can't date this bow precisely I can tell you that it is clearly an Owen Jeffery design. Owen was President of Shakespeare following his stint with Bear so that would place the period somewhere after 1970. These are almost invariably good shooters and I feel, often underrated bows.I'm sure a Shakespeare afficianado will chime in shortly with a more accurate dating. BTW- when Shakespeare decided to opt out of the archery business, Owen bought the operation and it is still producing bows; they are just Jeffery bows now- another often overlooked, high quality and strong performing line.     GY

Grant - Thanks for the information on what eventually happened to Shakespeare archery.  My first real bow (as opposed to all fiberglass beginner bows) was a Shakespeare.  Still have it, still shoots well.  I always thought they put out a good product. but were underappreciated.

I just restrung this one today and put a dozen arrows thru it without a rest or shelf plate.
It seems to shoot as good as any of these older bows I've had although I'm a bit partial to the 60's Red Wing Hunters.
Waiting on some feather rests from Trap and then we'll tune it up to some arrows and give it a good test.
Thanks for the info.

I thought I read somewhere that Pro Line bought out what was left of shakespeare after shakespeare got out of the business. Was Owen Jeffrey involved with Pro Line? I have a pro Line Osprey that looks a lot like a Shakespeare.
