Title: The ONLY place I know I can ask this!! Best Shooter old Bear?
Post by: SlowBowke on September 06, 2009, 05:21:00 PM
One of the many things I like about the gang here is that most can agree to disagree without anger and resentment so I FEEL SAFE asking this HERE.

I've seen several comments on opinions of what is the "best shooters" choosing from the Greyling Bears.

LOTS seem to favor the 59 Kodiak

I see several comments on the 64 Kodiak

And I know of least a few that think it's the 67 1/2 Super Kodiak.

I'm also sure that is part of the draw on the Kodiak Specials of various years but don't see it discussed much.

Personally, I'm Grayling Bear handicapped but
I do have to say that I have NEVER SHOT two bows better than I do the 55lb 67 1/2 and the 43lb 68 Super Kodiaks I have.

Of those of you who have or have had several of the Greyling bear models.... do you have a preference of what model and / or year bows YOU FELT is the "TOP THREE SHOOTERS"?

I appreciate any opinions along with the reason if you have one spotted.

God Bless.

55 Kodiak
57 Kodiak
60 Kodiak
59 Kodiak Special in 62"

I like those the best, in no particular order.

I love my 69 64in super kodiak but i just got a 59 64in kodiak and i really like the way it shoots. My 57 kodiak would come in second behind those two. Oh yea i also have a 74 60in super kodiak thats 40# and i love the way it shoots and i can shoot it all day.

I don't like the way any of the Super Kodiaks shoot.

Now, being fair, I have a 57 and a 59 but I have never shot them so I can't give a fair assesment of their shooting.

If I am correct, and we did a poll of "ALL" Bear trad shooters, I think the 59 would win just judging by the feedback I have heard over the years.

Papalapin, that seems kind of contradictory...    :)

I only have one Bear now, a 60" '70 Super Kodiak, and it shoots beautifully. I've had other Bears in the past, and all shot well. I shot a 40# Grizzly as well as any bow I've ever used. Wish I hadn't let it go. Started hunting in the early 60's with a Bear solid fiberglass longbow.

Considering that the 70s Super Kodiaks are the one piece brothers of the 70s  B risers, they can't be too bad.

Remember that none of the B risers are "black beauties" and I don't think it was because of the price of phenolic.

1962 Kodiak, 1966 64" Kodiak. Neither is very fast, but fast is not necessarily accurate. Both these bows are  INCREDIBLY  accurate. I have also seen several of the Mag Riser takedowns that were right in there. They are super-tuneable.  CKruse

I was just out shooting my 59 Kodiak Special yesterday evening and couldn't believe how sweet she shot...She's 40# and 64" and looks 99% new and has the factory finish still ...slightly yellowing but no streaks in the glass yet...I keep her in a bow sock and every once in a while I got to look at her and take her out to shoot...

I'm hoping this thread gets lots of answers over time.

Many of you have shot a lot of them and I know all of us won't agree on which were the real shooters with each of us being different.

It is, however, interesting when you find a few years and models several agree on.

I've never even SEEN a 1959...ANYTHING in person, let alone shoot one, or from 1960, and only a couple from 60-67, the pre Super K era.

I think one 61 Polar and one 65 Kodiak, other than a couple K. Maggies that all shot the same for me. Good enough to hunt with out to 20 yards and nice bows but "something" was missing. What that was, is not something I can pinpoint.

Even if I COULD make a poll here, the options are just too many, lol.

Value is relative to the person who is buying of course, but for myself, bows bought are by necessity, also my hunting bows. Collecting for collecting sake will probably never be an option with my current view of the future.

The responses from you all here does help and are greatly appeciated. The info will be remembered should I find something of interest when/if I'm able.

God Bless.
