Getting close boys and two girls this year. Just wanted to post that I took a walk this evening and went to Briarback Mountain and the piece by the greenhouses, well I am not usually impressed with seeing bunnies as we have a lot, but I counted 42 in a 50 minute walk. They was bustin' out all over!! Can ya say JLMBH(Joan Leonard Memorial Bunny Hunt) The official thread will be posted 1 minute after mid-night January 1st. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
Shawn--we will not hold you to any typos :bigsmyl:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Can't wait.......
David
We had a light snow falling and it was crazy. The piece where ya(Mark) lost a 1/2 dozen arrows(no typo) had more than half of the ones I saw, we never got to hunt briarback mountain the last hunt. Shawn
When should I start Dancin'????? :bigsmyl:
The day before the hunt...... :biglaugh:
David
Please keep woodchuck tied up till the day after.
Us Southern New Yorkers had sometime keeping up with all that snow last year... :scared:
Funny the Compound guy stopped in to see me yesterady and was wondering if I heard anything..
I shall repeat evryday that we will stay the second day.
What are the dates this year? Missed it last year due to hog huntin' and TX Sweat is in Feb this year :scared: Doc
color me jealous. At thsi time of year, I live to sling cedar at lagomorphs!
I went out fri after work and had a couple shots at bunnies. I have been ready to come back to hunt bunnies since i left last winter. OHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHH
YEAEEE HAWWW
Hey Shawn, just how many arrows did you find over by the green house this spring anyway? we never did hear. :bigsmyl:
I'm thinking about bringing my video camera this year and trying to get enough good film to send in for the TG video II. I just got to see if there is an automatic bleep feature on it first. :biglaugh:
You won't need the bleep feature Brent, I didn't hear any foul language over the top of all the swearing. :bigsmyl:
Ive been working out for this,ie; stomping briar patches, carrying 70 lb children on my back with a bow in each hand.I should be ready come February.Cant wait!
Hey Shawn.... Shell and I might come if herkimerhunter offers to carry me through the briar's patches .
  :bigsmyl: <><
Everyone is welcome, Frank you can come but ya have to bring one of knives for the St. Judes Raffle!! Lots and lots of bunnies. It is the 16th. and 17th. of Feb. As far as fro Chuck dancing , ya can start Jan. 1st. Lots and lots of snow is better than none at all and the Huntmaster says it is OK :bigsmyl: I cannot wait to see everyone again, lets try and get $3000 for the kids this year!! OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
Oh Yeahhh, three grand for the kid sounds about right Shawn.
Hey Shawn, I'm gonna try to make it this year as long as I'm not on call again for work. I'll see if Linc wants to ride down with me. Are you and Curt gonna come up for the indoor trad. shoot at Tollgate again this year?
Chuck...I like you...valued friend...BUT...if you start that dancing Sh...early and we get hit with 3 ft of snow like last year, I will personally visit your house with Vinny and Vito and make sure your not able to walk around Briar Mtn or any other piece of property we hunt!!!!!
I'm stuck inside the house this weekend, sick with a head bustin' cold. But I can still build lots of Bunny Huntin' Arras!
... :wavey: ...
... mike ...
Mike getting out into the fresh air will make you feel better.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YYEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Shawn, I think I corresponded with you once before about the hunt but I can't be sure, anyway, is this an open invitation hunt? If so I would be interested. I have written a few small game pieces for BOWHUNTER and TRADITIONAL BOWHUNTER mags and I am currently working on another rabbit article. I think a group hunt like this would make a great story. I have two beagles to contribute. (that is if you use dogs on this hunt) Thanks Bruce
Joe, Vinny and Vito are my uncles. They are a little older now but they can still swing a mean bat!! LOL
Bruce any Trad-Gang member may come and we would love to have you. I know of several people who have contacted me about writing articlws about this hunt. The people who come and make this hunt happen have already started a story that we as a group hope goes on a long time. Little things like, this is our 5th. year. We have killed at least one rabbit every year and the fact that 19 people that first year got around 33 shots and on the 4th. hunt, 40 got over 150 shots, shows what this hunt has become. The first year we did this hunt, we raised $300 for the St. Judes Childrens Hospital, this year we, my Trad-gang family expect that to be over $3000!!! What more can I say ->>>>-------> OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
I am so jealous, there is not much more fun you can have than a bunny hunt when there are a bunch to go after. WE have two inches of ice covered by six inches of snow. Unless things change there won't be enough rabbits left to hunt this year and I will have nothing left to do for the winter except plan a canoe trip into Canada. It's going to be a long winter.
OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
yah.... last night on the way out of the woods....jeremy did his best to convince me that I have to come down this year....gotta check with the boss (and now prolly is the best time to ask with all the hunting time I've taken) :0
Marc,
I can guarantee two things if you come......
1-You will have a fantastic time with some great people(you already know that if you spent time with Jeremy)
2-You will be absoulutely bushed after the second day, but in a good kind of way.....
David
Look out mister bunny >>-----> :jumper:

Don't forget about the great eats! I'm getting fatter just thinking about it. Shawn, please put Jeff, Tyler, and I on your list. We have some good stuff for the raffle this year.
Glad terry mentioned that, there are two requirements for coming to the hunt, ya must be a member of TG and ya must bring something for the raffle table, we will have bows at least 5, knives from some of the best Jeremy and Tippit and Sticshooter and we will have a special guest this year. Do not ask until ya see the official thread as it is gonna cost ya a little booty!! OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
Gonna have to whip up some special cedars for that raffle...oh man, I can't wait. Been jogging three times a week starting in November. Last time I made the mistake of going unprepared and that snow whupped me something fierce...
Did Somebody Say SNOW!!!!!!!!!! :bigsmyl:
OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Frank, build one of those mahoot type elephant saddles and Ill pack you and Shell. Its gotta be bocote and coco, maybe even snakewood and I get to keep it afterwards.
:jumper: :jumper: :jumper: OOOOOHHHHHH YYYYYAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, that made my day!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH YYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
I might even be able to hit one this year....Five bows this year huh??? :D
Go easy Chuck no repeats of last year.
Definately make sure to go easy on the snow, Chuck. We'd all hate for you to spend half the hunt digging a hex head outta your...uh...posterior... :saywhat: :saywhat:
Im wondering if we should just Duct Tape Chuck now.... :goldtooth:
Guess I need to start working of raffle items....practicing....making arrows. Ah the joys of counting the days...
By the way Shawn, if the snow removal crew is needed like last year, let me know.
Just make Chuck shovel it all, that will teach him :readit:
It was so deep last year we hired a loader to clear it all, we had about 27"s. The snow may of been deep but it is th ereason we killed 16 bunnies and that is not counting the 3 who committed suicide by diving down the old well! OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
... :D ... ...
If this wasn't right in the middle of my busy time I think I'd have to come. I wonder if I could afford air fare after doing all that cold weather clothes shopping??? :D
I know you guys will have a blast just like every year. CK
Curtis, Thanks very much!! Enjoy your busy time. I would love to be down your way at the time of my hunt! :bigsmyl: We have had it as cold as -15 degrees and wind chills of around -33 degrees tw oyears ago. It was warm last year, we started out around 3 degrees and ended up around 15 degrees. Shawn
Thanks for the reassurance that I live in the right place for me. :D
I can't feel my bow string when it gets below 60. :bigsmyl:
It isnt that bad if ya dress medium-light. Trust me, those drifts we had to SWIM through got your heart pumping. Throw the bow a few feet....swim to bow.....throw the bow....swim to bow...I cant wait!
Here's a pic of Jamie Swimming (http://home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~jsteflik1306/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/jlmbh07jamieindeep.jpg&target=tlx_new)
Yes, he is standing in that pic! :scared:
Gee.....Did I do that?????
Did anyone mention if ya crossing the runway and a plane comes in for a landing ya gotta jump and dive into the snow bank or risk being runwaykill??? :scared:
Shawn mentioned Briarback Mountain (http://home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~jsteflik1306/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/david_thick.jpg&target=tlx_new)
That pic is where it was opening up near the top!!
OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH YEAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I remember that spot, I also remember having to throw my bow out of there to get out.......
David
The runway is now fenced but we have a ladder to get over. The owners want me to continue to hunt it, thus the ladder. We can crawl underneath in a spot too!! Briarback has tons of bunnies and we I did a push for some kids that I work with where we used to shoot a lot of bunnies but the beavers invaded it, well guess what? All those fresh cuttings have attracted a bunch of bunnies and that is not to mention the rabbit valley, man we killed 6-8 in there last year and there are a ton in there again!! OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
Where abouts in NY does this take place?
Greg it is in Selkirk, NY. Can't be too far from you, it's 3 1/2 hours for me.
David
It is 5 miles south of the capital(Albany). We have guys from at least 7 states come and this year from Virginia and West Virginia!! Guys start making your stuff for the raffle. We will have a bunch of bows this year to give away as I myself will give away two!! OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
Bows you say?? :goldtooth:
I already have some stuff for the table...I plan on having a few more items, maybe even a 1/2 dozen ramin arrows, some obsidian heads....who knows what else.
I gotta say Im looking forward to this way too much already.
When ya wanna start with the practice sessions?
Jamie mentions bows as he won two at the hunt last year, one was a custom donated by Marc and the people at Chek-Mate and we have another custom coming this year!!! I cannot practice at all right now, I am still hunting but cannot shoot more than one shot. I have a torn trapeseus(sp.?) and a slight tear in my left tricep. I have all I can do to shoot once and I am deer hunting until Sunday. We will get in plenty of practice hunts though as I am gonna shoot lefty for a while. I just got a new Widow PTF and I cannot even shoot it. I have a lefty Kodiak Mag that I am gonna shoot for a while. This hunt is gonna be awesome and HUGE!!!! OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
I've got a quiver of solid fiberglass bowfishing shafts like the one I used last year all ready to do battle with the steel...
