I acquired this 64" maple site window '59 over the summer. It is in all original, excellent condition, serial number DA 012 which leads me to believe it is an early model. There is no coin as you can see, so there is plenty of room for a quiver bushing AND a compass!...

Chuck
Do many of the 59's NOT have a coin??
Nice bow

Chuck - Great looking 1959 Kodiak!
Your DA012 is the lowest serial number 64" Maple Sight Window that I can ever remember seeing or hearing about in the hands of a collector.
With No Coin on the side opposite the shelf, the 1959 Kodiak risers look a little more sleek. Guess they almost look naked with no coin.

That's cool Chuck. I had never seen lettering that matched my early 60" rosewood sight window until today. Looks to have been done by the same hand. I'll have to see if I have a close up. It's the bow that was featured in this thread. http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=001152 CKruse

Thanks everyone, I agree it is a cool bow for sure. I have an earlier model yet. My 64 inch rosewood site window has serial number EL963 that falls in the series of the last of the 1958 serial numbers.
CK- your rosewood '59 is a great bow. I am thinking they were using the dark rosewood they had on hand for the 1958 Kodiak Specials. Now we need to find a 56 inch model... that would be something. I don't believe Bear Archery made any 56 inch 1959 K's until they were using purpleheart as no 56" rosewood or maple site windows have ever been found. I heard rumors of a maple site window Kodiak Magnum but have never verified it. Someone should ask Joe St. Charles for his opinion sometime....
Here is my rosewood Kodiak and the '58 Kodiak Specials...

CKruse - Your Rosewood Sight Window 1959 is as nice as any Rosewood SW that I have ever seen. I drool, every time I look at that thread about yours!
Chuck - You are dead on with your remarks about the wood used for 1959 Kodiak Rosewood SW being the same wood as the 1958 Kodiak Special Sight Windows. The 1959 Sight Widow Rosewood is noticeably darker than the Rosewood slabs on original 1959 Kodiaks.
Kurt - I've never tracked the number of No Coin 1959 Kodiaks that I have seen over the years but it has probably been a dozen or so. I’m certain a lot more than that are still in existence and certainly, far more than that were originally made. Most guys who have been collecting Kodiaks quite a few years have owned one or more No Coin 1959 Kodiaks. Doc would probably be the guy to ask, as I’m sure he has had a lot more 1959 Kodiaks go through his shop than most of us have seen and he is a good bet for tracking that in his journals.
